Respiratory Therapist - Dayshift - Per-Diem

Position Summary

The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing respiratory care services to residents with respiratory and cardiopulmonary conditions, including those requiring mechanical ventilation.

This role includes administering treatments, managing ventilator-dependent patients, monitoring patient conditions, and responding to respiratory emergencies.

The Respiratory Therapist collaborates with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver safe, high-quality care in compliance with regulatory and facility standards.

Essential Job Functions

Clinical Respiratory Care:

  • Evaluate and manage patients with respiratory and cardiopulmonary conditions
  • Administer prescribed respiratory therapies including oxygen therapy, bronchodilators, and chest physiotherapy
  • Perform routine and emergency tracheostomy care
  • Monitor and adjust ventilator settings
  • Participate in ventilator weaning protocols
  • Respond to respiratory emergencies and perform CPR as needed

Patient Care & Coordination:

  • Educate patients and families on respiratory care
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams
  • Participate in physician rounds

Documentation & Compliance:

  • Document patient care and maintain compliance with regulations
  • Complete shift handoff reports

Equipment & Inventory Management:

  • Maintain respiratory equipment and monitor supplies

Team Collaboration:

  • Communicate with healthcare teams and leadership
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education & Licensure:

  • Current Respiratory Therapy license
  • RRT or CRT credential

Certifications:

  • BLS required
  • ACLS preferred

Experience & Skills:

  • Experience with ventilator patients preferred
  • Strong clinical and communication skills

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Work in clinical healthcare environments

Physical and Emotional Demands

Good physical and emotional health is required. The Respiratory Therapist may be required to stand or sit for long periods, lift and move patients, and work in a variety of healthcare settings including hospitals, clinics, and home healthcare.

Exposure Risks

Normal work routines could involve exposure to blood and body fluids. The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for following OSHA guidelines and standard universal precautions.

Working Conditions

Hours are based on resident and community needs. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.

If assigned to care for individuals on life-support where in-house coverage is required by law, the Respiratory Therapist must make arrangements to report to work during inclement weather. This may include coordinating with NJRA for alternative transportation or adjusting work hours as needed.
