Education – Completion or graduation of an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program.
Experience – One (1) year relevant experience as a member of a healthcare team is preferred.
Licenses & Certification – Incumbent is required to possess current licensure by the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision. Must have current CPR certification.
Knowledge & Skills –
Knowledge and ability to provide consultative advice or respiratory therapy to any level of professional or non-professional staff, patients and public as required.
Knowledge of systems required to maintain, repair and/or replace equipment.
Knowledge of human anatomy, chemistry and physiology.
Ability to operate and maintain the Respiratory Therapy Department to include reports and other administrative functions.
Ability to use a variety of manual resuscitators and the skill to administer the correct volume and pressures for patients of all ages.
The purpose of the position is to provide Respiratory Therapist services performing a variety of duties involving basic and technical procedures for patients within the assigned facility.
Work is performed in an ambulatory and non-ambulatory hospital setting. There is common exposure to communicable diseases, potentially hazardous chemicals, and biohazardous materials. Special attire may be required as protection against infection.
Work requires considerable walking and moving from bed to bed, bending and lifting, often in excess of fifty pounds, when helping patients in and out of bed and positioning patients in bed. Ability to cope with constant changes in a stressful environment.
Satisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following:
Administers a variety of Respiratory Therapy procedures including Hand-held nebulization, intermittent positive pressure breathing (IPPB), mechanical ventilation, oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, chest percussion with postural drainage, pulse oximetry, and metered dose inhalers.
Documents all treatments, findings and observations in the patient's medical record.
Responsible for the decontamination and sterilization of equipment.
Must identify and correct mechanical malfunctions occurring with equipment, including the disassembly, reassembly, safety checks and operational checks.
Initiates and performs effective CPR without physician direction.
Makes regular rounds on the hospital nursing unit to review or collect clinical data to insure that the respiratory equipment is operating properly and in compliance with physician's orders.
Regular attendance is required.
Performs other duties as necessary.
