A restaurant maintenance technician ensures the smooth operation of kitchen equipment, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems through preventive and emergency maintenance. The role requires technical expertise in multiple trades and a strong commitment to safety and hygiene standards.
Core Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on kitchen equipment including ovens, fryers, refrigerators, ice machines, and dishwashers to ensure optimal performance and food safety
- Respond immediately to emergency repairs that disrupt food service operations, minimizing downtime and preventing food spoilages
- Maintain HVAC, ventilation, and exhaust systems to ensure proper airflow, temperature control, and fire safety compliance
- Conduct plumbing maintenance including drain unclogging, leak repairs, grease trap cleaning, and water pressure checks
- Inspect and service electrical systems, lighting fixtures, circuit breakers, and backup power systems to prevent hazards
Technical Requirements
- Minimum of two years of verifiable experience in commercial kitchen equipment repair with expertise in refrigeration, electrical systems, and plumbing
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and equipment manuals for troubleshooting and repairs
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools such as thermometers, multimeters, and pressure gauges to assess equipment performance
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations including fire safety codes, and electrical safety standards
- Possession of refrigerant transition and recovery certification for handling refrigeration
Operational Skills
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment inventory using work order management
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors for specialized repairs and equipment installations while ensuring compliance with procurement policies
- Communicate effectively with kitchen staff and management regarding equipment status, maintenance schedules, and operational
- Perform minor construction tasks including tile repair, wall cleaning, and fixture replacement to maintain facility appearance
- Conduct pest control monitoring and collaborate with extermination services to maintain sanitation standards
