Retail Lumber Yard Worker- Part Time

REPORTS TO: Yard Foreman

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

POSITION TYPE: Part-Time

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Lumber Yard worker is responsible for sorting and racking lumber according to grade markings and size. They often operate a forklift or Industrial truck to assist in moving and loading materials and products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide outstanding customer service
• Answers questions, identify and direct customers to building materials and merchandise in the lumber yard
• Load merchandise on to store delivery trucks for delivery or transfer
• Assist with unloading deliveries, as necessary
• Remove lumber from units and place boards in rack, according to grade and length
• Reads work order, invoice, or follows oral instructions to determine materials or containers needing moved and/or loaded
• Assist customers with loading purchased merchandise
• Maintain the appearance of the yard and racks in an orderly and clean manner
• Operate forklift or industrial truck to assist in loading or moving merchandise and materials
• Complete daily forklift inspections
• Adhere to Loss Prevention, inventory control, and compliance procedures
• Safety awareness of anything in store that may be hazard to employees or customers
• Effectively communicates customer issues and concerns to all applicable internal staff members

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

• Strong work ethic
• Forklift experience is required
• Ability to:

• Read and comprehend simple verbal or written instructions
• Effectively communicate with customers, management, and co-workers
• Demonstrate initiative and effective problem-solving skills within the scope of the position
Work in a fast-paced environment
