Title: Sales Manager, Retail
Reports to General Manager, Retail
Category Full-time, hourly, nonexempt (eligible for overtime)
Wage $25 to $27 per hour. Bonus eligible up to 5% based on annual revenue and KPIs.
Schedule Generally 40 h/week, 5 days/week, either opening (8 am start) or closing (generally 1-2 pm start)

Essential duties and responsibilities
Summary. The Sales Manager is the sales operations leader of the retail business unit, responsible for the success and compliance of transactions at the point of sale by managing staff and inventory in accordance with BeWell policies and procedures, and industry best practices. Sales Managers report to the General Manager, directly supervise Sales Associates in their functions, and perform primarily sales operations tasks. The Sales Manager is a licensed Agent of BeWell’s state-issued, medical and adult-use cannabis licenses, in compliance with Cannabis Control Commission and all related federal, state, and local regulations.
Working with the General Manager and Inventory Manager, Sales Managers enforce policies and procedures, especially at critical control points related to cash handling and inventory throughout the business unit, and are expected to model compliance and professionalism in all instances. Sales Managers support BeWell’s revenue goals by maintaining a high-performing, efficient, and productive team of Sales Associates, and by ensuring customers and patients experience no friction shopping for and buying all the best cannabis products available. This list is not exhaustive, and other duties may be assigned as business needs arise.
1. Administrative
a. Supervise and enforce all cash-handling procedures, including but not limited to drawer counts, sales deposits, change requests, and cash tip disbursement, in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, as well as Finance policies and procedures
b. Operate and maintain POS hardware and software including point-of-sale devices, cashless ATM, ATM, and displays
c. Work with the General Manager to produce weekly Retail shift schedules using company timekeeping and payroll systems; review and approve timecards of direct reports
d. Ensure marijuana establishment compliance during operating hours, including performing keyholder/security officer responsibilities, and hosting inspections by authorized parties
e. Provide position-specific training and retraining including training material development to direct and indirect reports; ensure compliant recordkeeping of training and all other regulated activities
f. Manage procurement activities for non-cannabis supplies and materials
2. Sales Operations
a. Perform store opening and store closing activities, in coordination with Inventory and General Manager, and supervising Sales Associates per shift schedule.
b. Supervise and performance-manage Sales Associates including job task training/development and supervision, disciplinary and enforcement actions, and procedure development including but not limited to customer and patient intake procedures, transacting medical and recreational sales, inventory counts and audits, patient and customer education and service, sales techniques, product knowledge, social media content creation. Work with General Manager and Legal Counsel to document issues and discrepancies.
c. Through daily reporting and communication, work with Inventory and General Manager to maintain product inventory, including no out-of-stocks and rebalancing transfers between licenses; and collect actional feedback from internal and external resources regarding products, menus and services.
d. In compliance with laws and policies, including reporting requirements, perform management functions: patient/consumer discounts, employee discounts, returns, discrepancy investigation and resolution, etc.
e. Maintain site and facility cleanliness (light janitorial), and safety and security during operating hours, including sales floor presentation and merchandising, and sales-related hardware and software.
f. Support growth activities and to other sales-related projects including digital and out-of-home.
Physical requirements
· Ability to stand and walk for an eight-hour shift
· Extended time sitting at a desk and working at a computer
· Occasional bending, reaching, grasping and squatting to access materials
· Ability to lift at least 30 pounds with or without assistance
Skills and qualifications
· Experience managing cannabis retail activities, especially scheduling, supply chain, customer service, and staff management within Massachusetts markets
· Sales and operations leadership abilities, including knowledge of sales best practices and ability to coach direct and indirect reports to increase revenue and customer satisfaction
· Time management and ability to prioritize tasks to ensure compliance and continuity of sales systems and revenue operations
· Hardware, software and application skills including useof recordkeeping and scheduling/timekeeping systems, MS365 Suite, point-of-sale and other cannabis-retail-related systems, e.g., METRC, Dutchie
· Ability to triage issues for interdepartmental resolution, especially those related to retail systems and inventory control
· Problem-solving, communication and de-escalation skills, especially related to guest and staff management
· Experience managing people and processes in highly regulated industries, e.g., compliance with local, state and federal requirements including but not limited to MA employment law, MA Cannabis Control Commission, OSHA, ServSafe
· Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to clearly define and communicate issues, and coordinate solutions, compliant recordkeeping and resources, e.g., budgets
· Experience with or ability to learn social media content creation, posting and audience engagement best practices
· Minimum age 21 years and able to pass all required background checks and complete all required training, including but not limited to: Responsible Vendor Training (RVT), General and Retail Department company policies and procedures
