Florist Retail Sales Associate – Job Description

A Florist Retail Sales Associate is responsible for selling fresh flowers and floral products while maintaining presentation, freshness, and customer trust. This role directly affects revenue, waste, and brand reputation. Attention to detail matters. Timing matters. Care matters.

Key Responsibilities

The associate greets customers, understands the occasion (birthdays, anniversaries, sympathy, events), and recommends appropriate flowers and arrangements with confidence and sensitivity.

They prepare and wrap hand bouquets, simple arrangements, and gift items according to store standards. Work must be neat, fast, and consistent.

They maintain flower freshness by following correct care procedures: trimming stems, changing water, rotating stock, and removing damaged product. Dead flowers cost money.

They keep displays full, clean, and visually appealing. Buckets, fridges, and work surfaces must be spotless and organised at all times.

They process sales accurately using the POS system, handle cash and card payments, and manage basic order details such as delivery dates, cards, and customer notes.

They assist with incoming stock, unpacking flowers carefully, checking quality, and reporting shortages or damage immediately.

They support peak periods such as Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Eid, weddings, and events, where speed, accuracy, and teamwork are non-negotiable.

Required Skills and Attributes

Good communication skills with a calm, respectful manner—especially for sympathy and condolence orders.

Basic floral handling skills or a willingness to learn quickly.

Strong attention to detail and cleanliness.

Ability to work efficiently under pressure during busy periods.

Reliable, punctual, and physically capable of standing for long hours and handling buckets and stock.

Experience and Qualifications

Previous florist or retail experience is preferred but not essential. Training can be provided to the right person.

A genuine interest in flowers, design, and customer service is important.

Working Conditions

Retail hours include weekends, public holidays, and early mornings.

The role involves standing, lifting buckets, working in cold rooms, and handling fresh perishables.
