ABOUT Visalia Emergency Aid Council

Established in 1931, the Visalia Emergency Aid Council (VEAC) food pantry and family assistance center serves low-income individuals, seniors, and families with children residing in Tulare County, CA. Programs are funded through proceeds from our very successful thrift store. Visalia Emergency Aid thrift store (VEATS) is essential to funding our programs and operations.

As our enthusiastic and hardworking MATERIAL HANDLER, you will be responsible for (but not limited to):

  • Ensuring all Customers and Donors' needs are met by a genuine greeting and giving prompt, courteous assistance.
  • stock-priced items ready to be merchandised on the sales floor.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the store and donation area, to keep it clean, neat, and organized. Perform cleaning duties as assigned by Management.
  • Maintaining safety and compliance standards.
  • Attending required Monthly Store Meetings.
  • Receiving, unloading, and stocking incoming inventory items accurately and efficiently.
  • Providing Quality Assurance by inspecting products for defects and damage.
  • Courteously assist the donor in the removal of all donated items from the donor’s vehicle and provide a receipt.
  • Separating and sorting all donated material into the proper containers and properly stacking material as instructed by Management.
  • Performing other written and/or verbal duties as may be assigned by Management.

Qualifications to be considered for this position:

· Education Required: Some high school education.

· Experience Required: Six months’ experience in processing, warehousing, or customer service work is highly desirable.

· JOB SPECIFICATIONS

· Knowledge Required: Preferably, general retail store operations or warehousing; effective customer relations; and knowledge of material handling are all highly desirable.

· Equipment Used: Ticketing equipment, tagging gun, and credit card machines. Use of totes, hand trucks, and pallet jacks, depending on the assigned location.

· Ability to be flexible in handling a variety of tasks.

· Ability to communicate and interact courteously with the public and co-workers.

· Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, clothing carts, merchandise carts, rolling clothing racks, fixtures, furniture dollies, platform trucks and carts, hand trucks, and miscellaneous carts.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to perform various repetitive motion tasks.
  • Must be able to perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation

Schedule

Our stores operate 7 days per week. Work schedules are determined by Management, and employees must be flexible to ensure adequate store coverage at all times. Part-time associates may be scheduled to work any part-time shift, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
