The Rewinder Operator is responsible for operating a rewind machine. Rewind Operators are responsible for verifying quality of supplied rolls and reviewing product for defects to ensure the highest quality product for our customers. The Rewinder Operator’s primary responsibility is to inspect rolls of printed material to ensure customer specifications and quality standards are met. Attention to detail is a must. The Rewinder Operator serves as the final stage for those rolls that need quality check, before shipping to our customers. The Rewinder will also be trained on printing press responsibilities. As a Floater you will be responsible to give scheduled breaks to both Unwinder / Rewinder operators.
Essential Functions:

Review job work instructions/tickets to ensure all jobs will ship complete and accurate

Set up the rewind machine including blades, cores, and size
-
Operate the machine to divide the large printed rolls into finished small customer rolls

Review rolls for quality and consistency

Perform splices in which two rolls of the same product are taped together
- Complete proper labeling procedures and requirements

Observes flow of material through machine to detect irregular cutting and winding
-
Complete paperwork for each job and package finished roll
- Communicate with Shift Supervisor, Production Manager, and/or Production Planner regarding over and under runs, quality or concerns

Perform quality control inspections and remove defective material (wrinkles, doctor blades streaks, print imperfection, missing ink, second start ups, etc.)

Maintain production logs in

Operate a winding station to wrap rolls
- Maintain the work area and machines in a clean and orderly condition

Follow Schattdecor policies, procedures and safety regulations
- Assist in daily operations of the Rotogravure press

Organize lunch breaks for those who operate the Rewinder / Unwinder at the printing press

HS Diploma/GED;
-
Strong analytical, mathematical and organizational skills;

Ability to work with minimal supervision, team oriented, self-directed and reliable;

Excellent attention to detail and product quality;

Experience with various hand tools i.e., band saw, hammer, tin snips, etc.;

Great communication skills including following written and verbal directions;

Ability to bend, crawl, and twist;
- Ability to stand on feet for 8 hours;

Ability to lift and carry at least 50 lbs unassisted;
- Ability to push/pull heavy rolls of paper and ink tanks at least 75 lbs;

Must be able to differentiate colors, horizontal and vertical positions ;

Stand for long periods of time;
-
Frequent exposure to noise, chemicals and temperature differences.
