Job Accountabilities
As Risk Engineer, Your Role Will Involve
- Act as technical expert supporting external customers by identifying, assessing and reducing the risk they face in order to contribute to the continuous improvement of customer services.
- Conduct risk engineering surveys and desktop reviews for Oil, Gas & Petrochemical facilities in line with Zurich guidelines and industry best practices.
- Prepare clear, accurate survey reports and desktop reviews to support Underwriters in risk selection and pricing decisions.
- Provide practical risk improvement recommendations to customers aimed at reducing potential loss and improving safety standards.
- Review loss investigations (including both trend and root cause analysis) and implement lessons learnt.
- Maintain service quality and timelines to ensure positive customer experience and compliance with Zurich standards.
- Maintain risk engineering fees by providing good quality survey reports for external customers.
- Support internal and external customers by identifying and reducing the risks individually, and on an overall account basis.
- Continuously develop business relationships to support the Risk Engineering and Underwriting business.
- Collaborate with Underwriting and Risk Engineers to share technical insights and support account-level risk assessments.
- Participate in internal technical discussions and training sessions to continuously develop knowledge of Oil & Gas risk management.
- Support customer engagement by explaining survey findings and recommendations in a professional and customer-focused manner.
- Promote positive customer perception of Risk Engineering services in the Middle East.
- Share technical expertise with colleagues, business partners and customers through training delivery and participation in relevant industry seminars.
- Grow and maintain positive customer and business partner relationships and collaborate with both to develop appropriate service plans.
- Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental policies during all site visits and activities.
Job Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Bachelors Degree in Chemical / Mechanical Egineering or Master's degree in related field.
- 5 or more years of experience in the Risk Engineering area (Oil & Gas risk management)
- It is beneficial to have previous Industrial Experience (in Operation / Maintenance / Asset integrity / Process Safety Management roles)
- An additional qualification in Risk Management or Professional Certifications or Membership of Engineering Associations is advantageous.
- Be self-starter, with good interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively relate to individuals at all levels - from site technicians up to company CEOs.
- Be familiar and have knowledge of international engineering standards and codes such as API, NFPA, and other.
- Understanding common refinery and petrochemicals processes and hazards.
- Knowledge of fire protection and detection system, and familiar with Process Safety principles.
- Must be able to travel within the Middle East region.
- Strong communication and analytical skills.
- Fluent with English and professional writing skills with proven ability to write detailed reports of a varied technical nature.
