Risk Management Specialist - General Liability

Job Summary

We are looking for a Risk Management Specialist - General Liability to join our team! This position serves as the City’s primary general liability claims adjuster, responsible for independently managing all aspects of the municipal claims process. The role conducts investigations, evaluates liability, negotiates resolutions, and ensures compliance with legal, financial, and documentation standards. This position also partners with internal departments and the City Attorney’s Office to mitigate risk and support the City’s overall risk management program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Proactively manages, investigates, and resolves all general liability claims to include intake, inspection adjuster assignments, claim related correspondence, claim determinations, and settlements.
  • Conducts on-site investigations as necessary.
  • Consults with the City Attorney’s Office and participate in monthly litigation meetings.
  • Small Claims Court attendance.
  • Monitors claims in a Risk Management Information System (RMIS).
  • Practices consistent fiscal control over claims, establishes reserves, and completes all appropriate invoicing.
  • Provides appropriate timely responses to City of Bellevue Public Records Requests.
  • Maintains confidentiality of electronic records and document control.
  • Collaborate with the Risk Manager on special projects and initiatives as assigned.

Supervision Received and Exercised:

  • Works under the general supervision of the Risk Manager.
  • No formal supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Four years or more of related professional General Liability claims experience.
  • Or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides. the required knowledge, competencies, and abilities to succeed in the role.

FLEXIBLE/HYBRID WORKING

A hybrid work schedule is available for this position after an orientation period. Remote work for this position is subject to the department's operational needs and will be discussed with candidates during the selection process. Full-time remote work is not an available option. Once hired, employees must reside in the State of Washington and within reasonable commuting distance to Bellevue City Hall.
