RN Clinical Coordinator OB

JOB SUMMARY
Provides administrative and clinical direction for nursing personnel on a day to day basis. Acts as clinical resource for
nursing staff. Responsible for a balance of safe and fiscally responsible staffing for the day. Assures completion of
Orientation process for OB. Assists with clinical duties including are coordination of complicated patients. Assists OB
Manager as needed. Provides age and developmentally appropriate direct care for antenatal, intrapartum, postpartum
and neonate populations according to the OB Scope of Service. Adheres to and practices the SJH Corporate
Compliance Program and participates in Performance Improvement activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Quality of Care
1. Supports and promotes the SJH mission, vision and values to all staff
2. Participates and supports the SJH and departmental Performance Improvement program.
3. Ensures nursing updates ticket home with a daily goal for all patients.
4. Assesses the personnel requirements of the OB department in conjunction with the Manager.

Coordinates Medical & Nursing Management of Patient
1. Plans, promotes and attends interdisciplinary patient care conferences to foster case management. Identifies and
assists with case management of patients thru the continuum of care.
2. Communicates effectively with the medical staff to effectively problem-solve and uses proper chain of command.
3. Promotes cooperative interaction and communication between medical staff members and nursing personnel in all
departments in a positive, respectful manner.
4. Communicates patient status to Director of OB as appropriate.
5. Keeps licenses/certifications current and in Human Resources.
6. Makes daily rounds on patients and ensure hourly rounding is being done.

Management of Nursing Personnel
1. Evaluates and documents performance, participates in the corrective action program.
2. Utilizes risk management knowledge to identify high risk situations & initiates appropriate intervention in
collaboration with the Director.
3. Assists with planning for adequate number of competent staff to provide for safe, quality patient care.
4. Provides leadership to staff to promote compliance in nursing standards, policies and procedures.
5. Identifies educational in-service needs for personnel and acts as a preceptor to new staff.
6. Oversees the orientation program for the OB Department. Performs the 30, 60 and/or 90 day evaluation and
obtains feedback from the employee(s) for improvements identified. Communicates status of employee to Director.
7. Annually updates the competencies of all employees in OB Department to ensure new processes are included,
and the employees receive a thorough orientation.
8. Participates with Director to complete objective, and constructive annual evaluations in a timely manner.
9. Assists with the formulation and implementation of policies and procedures for the Unit.
10. Oversees staff assigned to ensure safe, efficient coordination of care as well as considering the needs of the
facility.

Manages Operations Aspect of OB Unit
1. Assists Director with monitoring budget: repairs, capital, wages, and supply costs.
2. Supervises and provides leadership to the staff by acting as a role model. Promotes interpersonal growth in team
building.
3. Is available to assist staff in clinical and stressful situations.
4. Manages payroll activities to promote employee compliance.
5. Represents the Director / department on hospital committees and communicates information in a timely manner.

Direct Patient Care
1. Fulfills the job description of the RN.
2. Supervises nursing activities related to patient care. Acts as a clinical resource to staff

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education
Required: ADN Nursing
Preferred: BSN Nursing
Minimum Work Experience
Required: Demonstrates leadership abilities with excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be able to articulate and
speak clearly and be understood by patients, co-workers and physicians. Basic computer skills. Job requires good
interpersonal and customer service skills.
Preferred: Minimum of 5 years experience in acute care critical setting.
Required Licenses: Current RN license with the authority to practice in the State of Wyoming. BLS required at time of hire.

FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS
Working Conditions: Hospital obstetrical unit. Frequent stressful situations. Must be on-site at the SJH campus or other facilities to fulfill
the responsibilities of this role.

Physical Requirements: 75% of time standing and walking. Irregular hours, meals, breaks. Must possess sight/hearing senses to meet job
requirements. Intermittent computer use. Must possess the ability to lift, push, pull and move patients, equipment and
supplies. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Internal & External Contacts: Department and hospital staff, patients and patients families.
