Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Registered Nurse (RN) to provide comprehensive healthcare services within a correctional facility. This vital role involves delivering high-quality patient care, ensuring safety, and maintaining compliance with healthcare standards in a secure environment. The RN will work closely with correctional staff and healthcare teams to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individual health needs, promoting wellness and managing acute and chronic conditions. Duties
- Conduct thorough patient assessments including vital signs, physical examinations, and health histories to determine immediate needs and ongoing care plans.
- Administer medications, including injections, IV infusions, and other treatments following aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
- Manage acute pain cases, perform wound suturing, catheterization, and other procedures such as tube feeding or ostomy care as required.
- Document all patient interactions accurately within Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems like Cerner or Athenahealth, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams for case management, discharge planning, and referrals to specialty services such as cardiology or infectious disease care.
- Monitor patients in various settings including infirmary units, mental health areas, or during transport for critical care or trauma cases.
- Maintain infection control standards through proper specimen collection/processing and adherence to CDC guidelines.
Experience
- Valid RN license with current state registration and the ability to work in a correctional environment.
- Proven experience in acute care settings such as hospital medicine, ICU, emergency room, or trauma centers is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency in medical-surgical nursing, triage procedures, and emergency response techniques including basic life support (BLS).
- Experience working with diverse populations including individuals with developmental disabilities or those requiring long-term care such as memory care or hospice & palliative medicine.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems like Cerner or Athenahealth for accurate documentation and coding (ICD-10/ICD-9).
- Knowledge of infectious disease protocols, infection control practices, and medication administration standards.
- Ability to perform complex procedures such as spinal taps, laboratory specimen collection/processing, phlebotomy, and ventilator management is a plus.
