About the Unit: 5 North is a 26-bed General Surgery specialty unit. We are categorized as a Med-Surg Unit but are primarily surgical volume. We specialize in:
Elective bariatric weight loss surgery - these patients are optimized for surgery and typically have a 24-hour stay and are up and ambulating on post-op day 0. General Surgery - appendectomies, cholecystectomies, small bowel obstruction, etc. Ortho - Foot and ankle, as well as ortho hand, and some ortho trauma Urology surgeryA Nurse on our Unit will gain experience in drains of all kinds, wound vacs, central lines, NGT, DHT, continuous bladder irrigation, and all surgical things.
