Position Summary

The Charge Nurse is responsible for overseeing the daily nursing operations of an assigned unit, ensuring quality resident care, supervising nursing staff, and maintaining compliance with facility policies and regulatory requirements. The Charge Nurse coordinates resident care, administers medications and treatments, communicates with physicians and families, and promotes a safe and positive environment for residents and staff.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesResident Care

  • Assess residents and identify changes in condition.
  • Develop, implement, and follow resident care plans.
  • Administer medications and treatments as ordered by the physician.
  • Monitor residents for effectiveness of treatments and potential adverse reactions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the medical record.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and changes in resident condition.
  • Participate in admissions, transfers, and discharges.

Staff Supervision

  • Direct and supervise Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), CMAs, and other assigned staff.
  • Assign duties and monitor completion of resident care tasks.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and support to nursing personnel.
  • Report performance concerns to nursing leadership.
  • Assist with orientation and training of new staff.

Communication and Coordination

  • Communicate effectively with physicians, nurse practitioners, therapists, and other healthcare providers.
  • Notify physicians and responsible parties of significant changes in resident condition.
  • Participate in shift report and interdisciplinary team meetings.
  • Collaborate with departments to ensure residents' needs are met.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Follow federal, state, and facility regulations and policies.
  • Maintain resident rights, dignity, and confidentiality.
  • Participate in infection prevention and control practices.
  • Ensure compliance with medication administration standards.
  • Assist with surveys, audits, and quality improvement activities.

Safety and Infection Control

  • Promote a safe environment for residents, visitors, and staff.
  • Follow infection control procedures and isolation precautions.
  • Report accidents, incidents, and hazards according to facility policy.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness activities.

Qualifications

  • Current, unrestricted RN or LPN license in the state of employment.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Long-term care experience preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of nursing practices, regulations, and resident care standards.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and assist residents throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift and transfer residents with assistance or mechanical devices as needed.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Working Conditions

  • May work weekends, holidays, and extended hours as required.
  • Exposure to infectious diseases and bodily fluids.
  • Frequent interaction with residents, families, staff, and healthcare providers.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $25.00 per hour
