Job Title: Robot Assembly Cell Operator
Job Summary
The Robot Assembly Cell Operator is responsible for operating and supporting an integrated manufacturing cell that includes robotic handling, CNC machining, welding, drill/tap stations, and a bushing press. This role ensures safe, efficient production of metal components by loading/unloading parts, monitoring automated processes, and performing quality checks. No robot or CNC programming is required; operators will run pre-set programs and follow standard work instructions.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a multi-process robotic cell that may include:
- CNC machining centers
- Robotic or fixed welding stations
- Drill and tap units
- Hydraulic or pneumatic bushing press
- Load raw materials into fixtures and unload completed parts from each stage of the cell
- Start and stop machines using HMIs and control panels
- Monitor cycle times, machine status, and part flow through the cell
- Perform in-process quality inspections (visual and dimensional checks)
- Use basic measuring tools (calipers, gauges, go/no-go gauges)
- Identify defects such as improper welds, mis drilled holes, incorrect threads, or improperly seated bushings
- Respond to machine alarms or faults by:
- Clearing simple jams
- Resetting equipment per standard procedures
- Notifying maintenance for complex issues
- Ensure proper part orientation and fixture loading to prevent damage or scrap
- Replenish consumables (e.g., fasteners, bushings, drill bits as directed)
- Assist with tool changes or changeovers under supervision (no programming)
- Maintain cleanliness of the cell (chips, debris, weld spatter, oil)
- Follow all safety requirements, including lockout/tagout awareness and PPE usage
- Accurately record production counts, scrap, and downtime
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 1+ year of manufacturing experience preferred (metal stamping, machining, or welding environment)
- Ability to follow standardized work instructions and process sheets
- Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
- Familiarity with industrial equipment is a plus (CNC, weld cells, presses)
- Ability to read basic blueprints or part diagrams (preferred but not required)
Skills & Competencies
- Strong attention to quality and detail across multiple processes
- Ability to monitor several machines/processes at once
- Basic understanding of machining, welding, and assembly concepts
- Safe work habits around automated and mechanical equipment
- Good communication with team members, maintenance, and supervisors
- Basic HMI/navigation skills for machine interfaces
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Frequent lifting of 25–50 lbs
- Repetitive loading/unloading of parts and fixtures
- Ability to work around heat (welding), metal chips, and moving equipment
Work Environment
- Industrial metal manufacturing environment with:
- CNC machining (coolant, chips)
- Welding operations (heat, light, fumes with proper ventilation)
- Mechanical presses and rotating equipment
- Required PPE includes safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, and hearing protection
Shift & Schedule
- 10 hour shifts
- Overtime and weekend work as needed
