Job Title: Rope Cutting Technician

Job Summary:
The Rope Cutting Technician is responsible for measuring, cutting, preparing, and handling wire ropes, steel cables, and lifting ropes used in elevators, cranes, hoists, and other industrial applications. The role requires strict adherence to safety standards, quality requirements, and technical specifications to ensure reliable performance of rope systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Measure and cut wire ropes and steel cables according to engineering specifications.
• Prepare rope ends using approved cutting, seizing, and termination methods.
• Inspect ropes for wear, damage, defects, and compliance with quality standards.
• Operate rope-cutting tools, hydraulic cutters, grinding equipment, and related machinery safely.
• Assist in rope installation, replacement, and tension adjustment activities.
• Maintain accurate records of rope lengths, specifications, and completed work.
• Follow workplace safety procedures, permit requirements, and PPE guidelines.
• Perform routine maintenance and inspection of tools and equipment.
• Coordinate with supervisors, engineers, and maintenance teams to complete assigned tasks.
• Keep work areas clean and organized to maintain a safe working environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Technical or vocational training in mechanical maintenance, rigging, or related fields is preferred.
• Experience working with wire ropes, lifting equipment, elevators, cranes, or industrial maintenance is an advantage.

Required Skills

• Knowledge of wire rope types, construction, and handling procedures.
• Ability to read measurements, drawings, and technical specifications.
• Safe operation of cutting and hand tools.
• Attention to detail and quality control.
• Good physical fitness and manual dexterity.
• Understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.

Working Conditions

• Industrial facilities, workshops, construction sites, shipyards, or elevator maintenance environments.
• Exposure to machinery, noise, and heavy materials.
• May require lifting, climbing, and working in confined spaces or at heights.
• Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
