Duties
- Safely operate tractor-trailers, flatbeds, tankers, or specialized trucks to deliver freight along over-the-road (OTR) routes, ensuring compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Load and unload cargo using manual handling techniques or equipment such as forklifts, ensuring proper cargo securing and adherence to hazardous materials regulations when transporting dangerous goods.
- Utilize GPS navigation systems to follow optimized delivery routes, adjusting plans as needed for traffic or road conditions.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections of refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, or tanker trucks to verify vehicle safety and compliance with safety standards.
- Maintain accurate delivery documentation, logs, and reports in accordance with logistics procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams regarding delivery schedules, route changes, or issues encountered during transit.
- Handle hazardous materials carefully when required, following all safety protocols for hazardous materials regulations and dangerous goods transportation.
Requirements
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with endorsements suitable for tractor-trailers or specific vehicle types such as flatbeds or tankers.
- Proven experience in delivery driving within logistics cargo handling environments; familiarity with refrigerated trailers is a plus.
- Knowledge of FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration), DOT (Department of Transportation), and hazardous materials regulations to ensure compliance at all times.
- Ability to operate manual transmission vehicles confidently and safely over long distances on OTR routes.
- Skilled in truck loading and unloading techniques, including manual handling and forklift operation when necessary.
- Strong understanding of route driving principles using GPS navigation tools to optimize delivery efficiency.
- Excellent driving record with a focus on safety; familiarity with truck driving best practices for freight transportation.
- Physical stamina to load/unload cargo repeatedly and handle heavy or hazardous goods safely.
