Safety Coordinator

Winger companies is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of a Safety Coordinator based out of our Fort Dodge, IA office. This position requires strong construction workplace safety knowledge and employee/customer relation skills. This person will be required to travel to various jobsites to perform jobsite inspections and other duties as required.

Job Summary

As a safety coordinator you will be responsible for implementing and maintaining safety programs, conducting training, and ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and company policies. You will work closely with management and employees to promote a safe work environment.

Key Responsibilities

· Oversee and enforce safety policies, procedures, and compliance with OSHA regulations

· Promote and re-enforce an injury free, “SAFETY FIRST” attitude and culture

· Ability to develop and nurture a positive, strong partnership with supervisors, foremen, employees and customers

· Provide a strong field presence and safety resource for the company, subcontractor, and customer personnel to identify safety hazards related to work and ensure that measures are put in place to control/mitigate them

· Know, understand and follow company safety programs, policies, and procedures

· Ensure that all safety standards and safety regulations are followed

· Ability to coach and train employees as part of a “positive” education process

· Conduct weekly safety meetings

· Investigate incidents, near misses, and accidents, Recommend corrective actions

· Maintain safety documentation, reports, and records in accordance with company and regulatory standards

· Conduct project safety activity plans when necessary

· Compose site safety activity plans when necessary

· Conduct new employee safety orientation training

· Maintain, calibrate and confirm use and operation of all required safety equipment

· Submit reports/documentation to Safety Director and HR Personnel

· Collaborate with management and employees to enhance workplace safety culture

· Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices

· Stay up to date with safety regulations and best practices to implement continuous improvements

· Perform other duties/responsibilities as assigned

Physical Requirements

· Ability to work in industrial environments, including exposure to varying temperatures, noise, and physical demands

· Ability to bend, climb stairs/ladders, kneel, stoop and walk on uneven terrain as work conditions dictate

· Must occasionally lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds

· Ability to perform duties both outside and inside in varying conditions including extreme heat, extreme cold, wet and/or humidity

· Work daily for periods of up to 8 hours or longer as required by customer

· Ability/willingness to travel when required

Education and/or other requirements

· Minimum of 2 years’ experience in safety coordination, preferably in an industrial, construction, or manufacturing setting.

· Knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety best practices, and risk assessment procedures

· Relevant safety certifications (OSHA 30) preferred

· Possess a valid Driver’s License

· Satisfactory driving record

· Pass pre-employment and jobsite drug screen

· Clear a seven-year background check

· Three to five years safety related experience in construction

· Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
