Nichols Contracting, Inc. (NCI) is a family-owned and operated Construction and Contracting business headquartered in Columbia, MD with offices in Richmond VA, Royal Palm Beach and Orlando FL with a team of 170 plus employees. NCI is a full-service general contractor focused on providing premier services in all aspects of the construction process, from concept to completion. We manage a broad range of commercial construction projects, including new construction, tenant fit outs, and renovations. NCI services a diverse group of markets including federal, state, and local governments, as well as a variety of corporate and special industry organizations that require complex life safety and critical infrastructure needs.

The Safety Manager at Nichols Contracting plays a key role in supporting and promoting a safe and healthy work environment on all construction projects. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, as well as company policies and procedures. The Safety Coordinator partners with project managers, superintendents, and field staff to implement safety programs, conduct training, monitor site activities, and drive a culture of safety across all levels of the organization.

Essential Functions:

  • Implement and monitor site-specific safety programs in compliance with OSHA, EM 385 1-1, and company standards.
  • Conduct regular job-site inspections, audits, and safety observations, document finding findings and recommending corrective actions.
  • Lead safety orientations for new hires and subcontractors.
  • Develop and update project safety plans, AHA’s and review submittals from subcontractors
  • Coordinate and deliver training on topics such as fall protection, PPE, hazard communication, confined space entry, and equipment operation.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses; prepare reports with root cause analysis and corrective measures.
  • Ensure subcontractors and employees adhere to safety requirements and provide guidance as needed.
  • Maintain and update safety documentation, including permits, logs, and training records.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and Superintendents to proactively address safety risks.
  • Support emergency response planning and coordinate drills as required.
  • Promote a culture of safety awareness and continuous improvement throughout the organization.

Desired Skills and Competencies:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years of safety experience in the construction industry.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards, construction safety regulations, and industry best practices.
  • At least one year of aviation-related experience
  • Safety certifications such as OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, CHST, or equivalent are strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication and training skills.
  • Ability to travel to multiple job sites as needed.
  • Certifications preferred: CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) or ASP (Associate Safety Professional).
  • Knowledge of EM 385 is preferred

Salary: $90-$120K depending on experience
