Job Title: Safety Officer – Foundry
Employment Type: Full-Time
Industry: Metal Foundry / Steel Casting / Industrial Manufacturing

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Safety Officer to oversee and implement safety protocols across all foundry operations including melting, pouring, fettling, heat treatment, pattern shop, and machining areas. The ideal candidate must have strong knowledge of industrial safety practices and experience working in a high-temperature, heavy-equipment environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor daily foundry activities to ensure compliance with safety rules and regulations.
  • Conduct risk assessments, identify hazards, and recommend corrective actions for:
  • Melting furnaces
  • Molten metal handling and pouring
  • Grinding & fettling areas
  • Sand plant & moulding areas
  • Forklift and material handling zones
  • Ensure workers follow PPE requirements (heat-resistant gloves, face shields, aprons, ear protection, safety boots, etc.).
  • Inspect and maintain safety equipment: fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, emergency exits, exhaust systems, ventilation, etc.
  • Conduct toolbox talks, training sessions, and safety inductions for all employees.
  • Investigate workplace incidents/accidents and prepare reports with preventive measures.
  • Monitor confined space entry, hot work permits, lock-out/tag-out (LOTO), and handling of chemicals (resins, coatings, thinners, etc.).
  • Maintain safety documentation and compliance with local authority regulations.
  • Coordinate with production, QA/QC, maintenance, and HR on safety improvements.
  • Promote a strong safety culture throughout the foundry.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Diploma/Degree in Engineering, Industrial Safety, or related field.
  • NEBOSH / IOSH / OSHA certification (preferred).
  • Minimum 2–4 years experience in a foundry, steel plant, or heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • Fire safety
  • Chemical safety
  • Working at heights
  • Hot metal/melting operations
  • Equipment & machine guarding
  • Ability to train and guide workers from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong communication and reporting skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with emergency response and evacuation procedures.
  • Ability to enforce safety with authority but professionalism.
  • Familiarity with ISO 45001 / HSE standards.
  • Experience handling audits and inspections.
