Job description:
SUMMARY: The Sales & Business Development Intern will be responsible for expanding Carolina Medical Lab (CML) market reach by building and maintaining relationships within the medical community. This role involves direct field outreach, client education on laboratory materials, and identifying provider needs to drive organizational growth.
REPORTING STRUCTURE: This position reports to the Project Lead and Management Team.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Client Outreach: Conduct routine site visits to local medical providers to promote CMedLab materials and diagnostic services.
- Lead Generation: Identify and contact potential clients in the surrounding area to expand the laboratory’s service footprint.
- Relationship Management: Act as a primary point of contact for client inquiries, answering calls and emails regarding service capabilities and technical questions.
- Market Research: Interface directly with healthcare providers to identify service gaps and determine high-demand testing needs.
- Presentations: Develop professional pitch decks and presentations for potential clients and facilitate introductory meetings.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with Marketing and Web Development interns to ensure client feedback is reflected in branding and digital tools.
- Administrative Follow-up: Maintain a log of client interactions and follow up on pending contracts or service agreements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Communications, or a related field.
- Strong interest in healthcare administration or medical sales.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
PREFERENCES & ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- Training Documentation: Interns must complete and provide documentation of initial orientation and departmental training at CMedLab prior to beginning independent assignments.
- Professional Experience: Previous experience in a professional office, retail, or customer-facing environment is preferred, but not required.
- Career Development: If the intern has not met the full educational requirements listed above, they will perform all tasks under the direct on-site supervision of the Project Lead or Department Manager to ensure educational objectives are met.
- Future Opportunity: Exceptional performance during the internship period may lead to consideration for a permanent, paid position within the organization.
SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS:

- Professional Standards: Employees and interns of CMedLab are expected to maintain a professional appearance.
- Field Safety: For the Sales Intern, professional attire and closed-toed shoes are required during all site visits to clinical facilities.
- Laboratory Areas: While these roles are administrative/creative, any entry into the active laboratory testing areas requires adherence to standard PPE protocols, including closed-toed, non-permeable shoes.
