The Farm Fresh Produce Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the produce department, ensuring the highest standards of quality, freshness, and presentation. This role involves sourcing and ordering from small, local farms, maintaining strong relationships with farmers and customers, managing inventory, and ensuring proper storage and handling of produce. The ideal candidate is passionate about seasonal, farm-fresh produce, has excellent organizational skills, and thrives in a customer-focused environment.
Responsibilities:
Produce inventory management, ordering and receiving
Process fresh produce upon delivery and store appropriately until ready to be merchandised
Rotate stock for freshness, organize displays with correct labeling, pricing and farm displays
Manage inventory levels to minimize waste while ensuring a consistent supply of fresh produce
Track and analyze sales trends to inform ordering decisions
Clean, prep and package various “to go” vegetable or fruit options to provide customers with an easy, ready to eat or cook product
Work closely with management to determine seasonal “to go” produce options to have available for customers
During seasons with less variety, work with management to find complimentary products to showcase in produce cooler
Maintain good working relations with farms and farm collaboration members to ensure a reliable supply chain
Engage with customers in a friendly, professional manner to provide expert knowledge about produce, including sourcing, seasonality, and preparation tips
Address customer inquiries and concerns promptly, ensuring a positive shopping experience
Monitor cleanliness, refrigeration temperatures, and storage protocols
Maintain up-to-date inventory records and assist with reporting spoilage or waste
Product knowledge of local seasonal produce
Collaborate with leadership and farms on seasonal selections and promotions
Train and guide produce staff on quality standards, customer service, and proper handling of produce
Communicate all expectations and procedures involving produce to produce staff and management
Design and maintain beautiful, seasonal produce displays that attract customers and highlight the freshness and variety of offerings
Requirements:
2+ years of experience in grocery, produce, or related retail environment
Food safety certification
Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs
Must be available to work weekends and holidays
