The Saw Operator is one of many pivotal roles at Diedrich. The Saw Operator is the first step in our machining process, taking raw material and cutting it to length for subsequent welding or machining. This role offers significant room for growth for those who show a superior work ethic and initiative. This role provides an abundance of exposure to our machine shop and the machining trades. Integrity, reliability, hard work, and communication are the qualities of a great saw operator.
Responsibilities
- Managing machines- The Saw Operator is responsible for maintaining all prescribed processes to increase throughput and quality on the saw and various other machines.
- Quality checking- All parts are checked multiple times by all operators. When a part completes a step, the operator responsible checks all dimensions to ensure the part is within print specifications.
- Stocking- The Saw Operator is responsible for stocking and organizing all raw material, ensuring it is safely shelved, easy to identify, and in an appropriate location.
- Organize & Clean- The Saw Operator is responsible for keeping their space organized and clean, including all other areas of the shop. Maintaining machines and cleaning them in between jobs and at the end of the day is paramount to success.
- Preventive Maintenance- PMs are crucial to keeping machines running well and accurately. As well as cleaning, adhering to a prescribed PM schedule is required.
- Setting up- The saw operator is responsible for setting up the saw and ensuring it is running correctly, via first article checks, checking parts throughout the run, and peer reviews.
- Unload Material- The Saw Operator is responsible for unloading raw material from the delivery trucks, working in conjunction with others to ensure material is off-loaded safely and efficiently.
- Deburring- Safety is important, and the Saw Operator plays a key role in maintaining this. Every part cut/handled by the saw operator should be sufficiently deburred so that no one is cut when handling the pieces afterward.
- Marking Parts- Marking material is crucial to keeping an organized and efficient area. The Saw Operator is responsible for marking raw material, in-process parts, and finished items.
Experience
- Ability to read & write
- Ability to use a tape measure down to one-sixteenth.
- High school level math skills
- Ability to lift items from the floor to the shelf
- Ability to effectively stage and organize items
- Ability to use calipers and micrometers
- Ability to read measurements down to ten thousand
- Experience with cutting parts on a drop saw
- Good communication skills
- Experience driving and using a forklift
- Experience operating a jib crane
- Experience with identifying metals and performing Rockwell hardness testing
- High School Diploma
- Reliable transportation five days a week
