School Branch Manager

The Massillon Public Library is looking to hire a School Branch Manager

POSITION DETAILS:

Position Title: School Branch Manager

Reports To: Director

Position Type: Non-exempt, hourly

PURPOSE:

· To provide comprehensive service to all patrons and facilitate collaboration with Fairless School District.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is preferred

· Will consider candidates having some higher education with 3-5 years comparable experience

· Prior Supervisory experience is desirable

· Customer Service experience, preferably in a library environment, is desirable

· Working knowledge of research databases and online catalogs, a plus

· Working knowledge of the developmental characteristics of children at various ages and stages is helpful

· Story telling experience a plus

· Must have knowledge of basic e-book technology and e-readers and office productivity software (i.e. MS Office)

· Must have acceptable results on a criminal background check

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Exercise independent judgement and discretion while managing and evaluating the operations and activities of the Pam S. Belloni Memorial Branch functions

· Manage public service at service desks, including, but not limited to:

o Oversee service to patrons of all ages in functions such as: issuing library cards; collecting fees; checking materials in and out; finding and reserving materials; assisting patrons in researching any topic; performing Reader’s Advisory; monitoring public computer operations, referring complex or persistent technology problems to the Technology Department; handling patron concerns in a courteous, tactful manner

o Oversee materials handling such as: processing returned materials, including emptying book drop(s); assisting with sorting and packing of library materials received and sent via delivery service; operating ovens used to control pests; facilitating the flow of materials from one branch to another; mending books, as needed; processing new magazines

o Maintain the Library’s presence in the community and support community partnerships that enhance district and Library programs

o Develop, present, implement and evaluate age-appropriate programs for children of any age, families, and adults

· Manage library services to the Fairless Elementary school students, including, but not limited to:

o All services listed above for public service; develop/supervise children’s programming in accordance with the needs and agreement with the school; maintain accurate records and statistics of student visits; coordinate with school on daily class schedules for visits to the library; assist teachers in fulfilling requests for specific library resources

o Maintain physical space occupied by the Library, including, but not limited to: coordinate with school on security measures; cleaning and dusting of Library space; coordinate with school maintenance for snow removal on snow days

· Interview, select, train, supervise, evaluate, and recommend decisions about employee status changes to the Pam S. Belloni Memorial Branch staff in cooperation with Human Resources

o Creating and coordinating of School Branch Specialist staff schedules and desk schedules

o Reviewing and approving employee time cards, insuring accuracy and completeness, as applicable

o Planning and leading regular department meetings and training sessions

o Recommending appropriate continuing education opportunities for staff

· Facilitate promotion of Library branding through displays and via coordination with Marketing Department

o Maintaining collection by shelving and participating in weeding and inventory projects as needed

o Overseeing displays of materials

o Overseeing seasonal displays of information and resources such as tax forms, seeds, etc.

· Miscellaneous other managerial and general requirements

o Perform opening/closing tasks

o Occasionally fill in at another branch or department if the need arises

o Follow appropriate cash handling procedures

o Maintain regular and reliable attendance

o Demonstrate ability to get along with others

o Abide by established Library policies

o Necessary physical aspects include, but are not limited to: standing, sitting, operating office equipment, climbing steps, lifting up to 35 lbs., pushing or pulling loaded carts, and working in a hot room with the ovens

o Attend appropriate meetings and workshops

o Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
