School Bus Diesel Mechanic

Duties

  • Perform comprehensive diagnostics and repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, hydraulics, and HVAC systems on school buses and related heavy equipment
  • Conduct routine maintenance including oil changes, tire service, alignment, shocks & struts, and vehicle inspections to ensure optimal performance
  • Utilize schematics and technical manuals to troubleshoot electrical systems, air brakes, and other complex components accurately
  • Fabricate parts or modify equipment using welding, soldering, hand tools, power tools, and fabrication techniques to meet repair specifications
  • Maintain detailed service records, work orders, and inspection logs to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations
  • Assist in the assembly or disassembly of vehicle components and perform heavy lifting as needed to support maintenance tasks

Requirements

  • Proven mechanic experience with a focus on diesel engine repair and automotive diagnostics; dealership experience is highly preferred
  • Strong mechanical knowledge of heavy equipment operation including farm machinery, industrial equipment, tractor-trailers, and automotive repair systems
  • Proficiency with schematics, electrical systems, hydraulics, suspension systems, HVAC units, and brake repair techniques
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, soldering irons and perform fabrication tasks effectively
  • Experience with tire service and wheel alignment procedures; familiarity with Shocks & Struts is a plus
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail; ability to interpret technical manuals and schematics accurately
  • Physical ability to perform heavy lifting safely; comfortable working in various environmental conditions
  • Strong customer service mindset with the ability to communicate clearly with team members and supervisors

Pay: $25.00 - $31.00 per hour
