School Bus Terminal Manager — York Suburban School District
Overview
The School Bus Terminal Manager for York Suburban School District oversees all daily student transportation operations serving the district’s seven schools. The role ensures safe, reliable, and efficient transportation for students across Spring Garden Township and surrounding communities. This position manages terminal staff, coordinates routes, maintains compliance with Pennsylvania school transportation regulations, and upholds the district’s commitment to safety, professionalism, and strong community relationships.
Responsibilities
Transportation Operations
- Direct daily terminal operations supporting YSSD’s regular, special education, and extracurricular transportation needs.
- Oversee routing and scheduling to ensure on time‑ arrival for all district schools, adjusting routes for enrollment changes, road conditions, and construction.
- Coordinate closely with district administration, building principals, and athletic/activity coordinators to meet service expectations.
- Lead operational responses to weather delays, early dismissals, and emergency situations in alignment with district protocols.
Staff Leadership
- Supervise and support bus drivers, monitors, dispatchers, and maintenance personnel assigned to the YSSD terminal.
- Ensure all employees meet Pennsylvania CDL and school bus endorsement requirements.
- Maintain staffing levels that support daily routes, field trips, and athletics schedules.
- Foster a positive, student centered‑ culture consistent with YSSD values.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) regulations.
- Responsible for collecting driver qualifications, annual physicals, compliance, etc.
- Conduct ride along‑ evaluations, and incident investigations.
- Promote a proactive safety culture aligned with YSSD’s emphasis on student well‑being.
Fleet & Facility Oversight
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure timely inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance for all vehicles serving YSSD.
- Monitor fleet readiness, vehicle availability, and equipment needs, including winterization for weather.
- Oversee terminal facility operations, security, and compliance with district standards.
Communication & Community Relations
- Serve as the primary transportation contact for YSSD administrators and school staff.
- Respond promptly and professionally to parent concerns, service disruptions, and student behavior issues on buses.
- Provide clear communication during delays, emergencies, or route changes, supporting the district’s commitment to transparency.
- Collaborate with school principals and student services teams to address recurring transportation concerns.
Administrative & Financial Management
- Manage terminal expenditures related to labor, fuel, maintenance, and supplies.
- Track and report key performance indicators such as on time‑ performance, safety incidents, and absenteeism.
- Maintain accurate records for district reporting requirements.
- Support the district in transportation planning for enrollment shifts, boundary considerations, and program changes.
Qualifications
Required
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem solving‑ skills.
Preferred
- Experience in school transportation management, logistics, or related operational leadership.
- Knowledge of PennDOT and PDE school transportation regulations.
- Proficiency with routing and scheduling software, as well as standard office applications.
- CDL with school bus and passenger endorsements (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience working with Pennsylvania school districts or similar public sector‑ environments.

Work Environment
· Work Hours: Monday through Friday 6:00am until 5:00pm, with extra hours as needed to meet deadlines.
· Lifting and moving products/boxes up to 50 pounds.
· Standing, sitting, and walking throughout the building and outside bus parking lot.
· Driving a school bus/van.

Pay: Up to $77,000.00 per year
