Job Summary

The School Cafeteria Assistant/Cashier helps prepare, serve, and cashier school meals in a fast-paced cafeteria environment. This role supports daily food service operations by preparing meals, maintaining food safety standards, providing excellent customer service, and accurately processing meal transactions.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook, and serve meals, salads, entrées, vegetables, and à la carte items according to standardized recipes.

• Operate the cafeteria point-of-sale (POS) system and accurately process meal transactions.

• Collect and account for cash payments and assist with daily deposits.

• Maintain accurate food production and meal count records.

• Follow food safety, sanitation, and cleanliness standards.

• Clean kitchen equipment, utensils, serving areas, dining areas, and other assigned spaces.

• Participate in training related to school nutrition programs and meal service requirements.

• Provide friendly and professional customer service to students, staff, and visitors.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Ability to follow written recipes and instructions.

• Basic math skills and attention to detail.

• Strong customer service and communication skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred:

• Previous food service, cafeteria, cashier, or hospitality experience.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 40 pounds.

• Ability to work in a kitchen and school cafeteria environment using food preparation equipment and computers.
