We are seeking a qualified and experienced School Counsellor to join our caring and inclusive British international primary school in Doha. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting students’ emotional wellbeing, mental health, and personal development within a safe, nurturing, and culturally respectful school environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individual and small-group counselling support to primary-aged students
- Promote positive mental health, emotional resilience, and wellbeing across the school
- Support students with social, emotional, behavioural, and learning-related needs
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SLT, parents, and external professionals
- Contribute to safeguarding, child protection, and wellbeing procedures
- Maintain accurate, confidential records in line with school and MOE requirements
- Support whole-school wellbeing initiatives, assemblies, and workshops
- Adhere to all school policies, including safeguarding, confidentiality, and professional conduct
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (BA) in Psychology or a closely related field
(This qualification is essential for approval by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education – MOE, Qatar)
- Recognised counselling qualification or relevant professional training
- Experience working with children in a primary school setting (preferably British curriculum)
- Strong understanding of child development, mental health, and wellbeing
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work sensitively within a multicultural international school environment
Safeguarding & Child Protection
- A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
- Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures in schools
- Willingness to undertake safeguarding training as required
- Successful candidates must:
- Provide valid police clearance certificates and relevant documentation to enable full safe recruitment screening, including clearances from all countries where the candidate has lived or worked
- Meet MOE safeguarding, licensing, and approval requirements
- Comply fully with the school’s Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy
Desirable
- Experience in an international school setting
- Knowledge of British safeguarding frameworks and pastoral systems
- Experience supporting SEN, wellbeing, or inclusion initiatives
