English Language Private School is a well-established British curriculum school serving students from FS2 to Year 13. We are seeking an enthusiastic, organized, and student-centred School Librarian to lead and develop our library provision across the school.
The Role
The School Librarian will be responsible for managing the library as a vibrant learning hub that supports literacy, research, independent learning, and curriculum delivery. The successful candidate will work closely with students, teachers, and school leaders to promote a strong reading culture and ensure access to high-quality physical and digital learning resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the school library.
- Maintain and develop an attractive, organised, and welcoming library environment.
- Catalogue, classify, and manage library resources, including books, periodicals, and digital materials.
- Support students from FS2 to Year 13 in selecting appropriate reading and research materials.
- Promote a culture of reading through book clubs, reading challenges, author visits, literacy campaigns, and World Book Day activities.
- Collaborate with teachers to support curriculum-based learning and research projects.
- Monitor and analyse library usage and reading engagement data.
- Manage textbook inventories and support the distribution and collection of learning resources.
- Support school events, literacy initiatives, and enrichment activities.
- Maintain and manage library management systems and digital reading platforms.
- Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed at all times and report concerns in line with school policy.
- Prepare reports and recommendations regarding library development and resource requirements.
RequirementsEssential
- Bachelor's Degree in Library Science, Information Science, Education, English, or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Librarian, preferably within a school environment.
- Excellent spoken and written English communication skills.
- Strong organisational, administrative, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and parents.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and educational technology.
Highly Desirable
- Experience working in a British Curriculum school.
- Familiarity with library management systems such as Oliver, Follett, Accessit, Destiny, or equivalent.
- Experience using reading and literacy platforms such as MyON, Accelerated Reader, Renaissance, or similar programmes.
- Experience organising literacy events, book fairs, reading competitions, and author visits.
- Experience supporting whole-school literacy and reading improvement initiatives.
