School Nurse

Gem Prep is a K- 12 college preparatory school. At least sixty percent of Gem Prep students will graduate high school with an associate’s degree and the remainder will graduate with at least 18 college credits. During the elementary years, Gem Prep believes in building a strong academic foundation to prepare students for the rigorous learning environment in grades 7-12.

Summary
The school nurse implements Board of Education policy and regulations related to health. This position is responsible for instructing and assisting students in maintaining good physical, mental, and social health. The school nurse acts as liaison between students, parents, and administrators, faculty, and staff members regarding matters of health and/or health education. There is a cooperative working relationship and ethical attitude toward teachers and staff. This is a part time position, approximately 12-18 hours per month. Pay is $40.00 per hour. Responsibilities

• Assists with delivery of health services within the school health program utilizing appropriate nursing processes
• Conducts self in a professional and positive manner in person, on the phone, and in written communication.
• Maintains current knowledge of students with special health needs/conditions.
• Records information regarding children's health accurately and confidentiality in the education record.
• Provides licensed registered nursing services (treatments, medication administration, contributing to assessments) as defined by the Idaho Nurse Practice Act and Rules and Regulations of the Idaho Board of Nursing
• Communicates regularly with Building Administrator and Director of Special Education with relevant health information regarding special education students for Individual Education Plan and multi-disciplinary team concerns.
• Seeks out and takes advantage of opportunities for professional growth.
• Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality of health and student information.
• Has regular and predictable attendance.
• Other Duties and Responsibilities: Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Have graduated from an accredited school of practical nursing and hold an Idaho license in good standing as a licensed registered nurse and be willing to seek certification for a school nurse through the Idaho State Department of Education
• Have good communication, organizational skills, and word processing skills and have basic knowledge of computer operations.
• Demonstrate the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively with other school staff
• Be physically able to perform assigned activities.
• Be Red Cross CPR and first aid certified or attains such certification within 30 days of date of hire.
• Have or attain any additional skills or certification that the board may find appropriate and acceptable.
