Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, BSN (preferred) or Associate's Degree in Nursing

Experience in pediatric, public health, or school nursing preferred

REPORTS TO: Assigned Principal
JOB GOAL: To provide comprehensive school health services that support student wellness, reduce health-related barriers to learning, and ensure a safe and healthy school environment for all students.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities

Follow all rules, policies and procedures of Wayne County Public Schools, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to school/student wellness issues.

Coordinate and manage the daily delivery of school health services in assigned schools in alignment with North Carolina school health mandates.

Identify, assess, and provide care for students with acute and chronic health conditions, including emergency response when needed.

Develop, implement, and monitor individualized healthcare plans (IHPs) and emergency action plans (EAPs) in collaboration with school staff and families.

Serve as a case manager for students with specialized healthcare needs.

Act as a liaison among school personnel, families, and healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care and appropriate accommodations.

Lead efforts related to communicable disease control and immunization compliance.

Monitor and support compliance with infection control and bloodborne pathogen guidelines.

Assist schools with managing exclusion/readmission related to communicable or nuisance diseases.

Support auditing and reporting of student immunization records.

Conduct and coordinate health screenings (e.g., vision) and ensure appropriate follow-up and referrals.

Identify health-related barriers to learning and coordinate appropriate interventions.

Participate in school-based teams when health concerns impact student performance or attendance.

Provide training to school personnel on medication administration and specialized health procedures.

Maintain accurate and confidential student health records in compliance with FERPA and district policies.

Develop and deliver health education programs for students, staff, and families based on identified needs.

Maintain communication with the Lead School Nurse regarding activities, concerns, and compliance requirements.

Stay current with best practices in school health nursing through professional development and continuing education.

Follow universal precautions and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment to ensure safety.

Perform all other related duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month work year/FLSA Exempt.
SALARY: Starting Salary and/or Grade: Salary based on state salary scale
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board, local and state policy on evaluation of School Nurse.
