Position:


Borough Based Itinerant School Psychologist

(One Year Position)


Location:

Division of Inclusive and Accessible Learning (DIAL) – Special Education Office (SEO) - Office of Supervisors of School Psychologists (OSSP)


Eligibility Requirements:

New York State Certification in School Psychology


Selection Criteria:

  • Current NYCDOE employees must have a satisfactory rating in the most recent three years of service

  • Experience evaluating the emotional, social, cognitive and educational performance of students

  • Knowledge of assessment strategies and tools

  • Ability to communicate effectively with families, agencies, and school personnel

  • Knowledge of the continuum of services and special education process, regulations of the NYSED Commissioner, regulations of the NYCDOE Chancellor

  • Knowledge of due process rights

  • Ability to collaborate and coordinate with several stakeholders


After interviewing applicants that meet the selection criteria above, the following applicants will be considered:

  • Regularly appointed and tenured

  • Regularly appointed and not tenured

  • New applicants to the New York City Department of Education


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Review information collected in SESIS to support assessment and analysis in the student evaluation process.
  • For initials and reevaluations, use assessments and collect data pertinent to answer the referral question.
  • Evaluate students in the areas of cognitive, social, emotional and educational competencies.
  • Ensure effective management and timely completion of the evaluation process.
  • Administer assessments within compliance timelines for assigned students referred for special education evaluations. This includes assessments resulting from initial referrals, three- year mandated reviews and requested re-evaluations.
  • Attend professional learning hosted by the Office of Supervisors of School Psychologists and apply skills learned to improve assessment practices.
  • Engage in quality culturally sensitive assessment planning and practice that includes, when deemed appropriate, the use of cross-battery assessment, consideration of construct validity, as well as considerations for English Language Learners
  • Develop high-quality assessment reports that clearly incorporate findings from multiple assessment sources and describe outcomes including the individual needs of each student assessed. Reports should be thorough and written clearly so that they may be readily understood by parents and school staff.
  • Reports should be completed and provided to IEP team members within a timeframe that allows for time to review the information shared and for scheduling the IEP meeting within compliance timelines.
  • Consult with school staff, parents, and students regarding behavioral management issues and concerns.
  • Borough based case management.
  • Performs other related responsibilities as assigned by the executive director or designee in accordance to their title and license and consistent with this posting
  • Participates in pilots involving the review and use of new testing tools.

Preferred:

  • Current NYCDOE tenured school psychologist
  • Doctoral level school psychologist
  • Neuropsychology certification or the equivalent training
  • 5+ years of service as a school psychologist or privately conducting assessments of K-12th grade students.
  • 5+ years of consecutive satisfactory service
  • Experience with cross battery assessment programs such as the X-BASS

Hours:

As per UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement

8:00 AM – 3:20 PM Monday Through Friday
