Description
The School Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing and enhancing safety and security operations within the school district. This position provides comprehensive support services, delivers critical training to school monitors, and serves as a liaison between schools, district leadership, law enforcement, and external agencies to ensure a safe and secure educational environment.
Duties and Responsibilities

Provide guidance to school and district administrators on disciplinary matters involving students and school monitors.

Attend and participate in District Expulsion Hearings and advise on hearing outcomes.

Serve as liaison with school administrators regarding issues involving school monitors, including attendance and complaints.

Coordinate and maintain regular communication with the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) regarding School Resource Officers (SROs).

Liaise with contracted security providers to address after-hours and weekend security concerns.

Assist in developing crime prevention strategies and investigate incidents involving crime or misconduct.

Coordinate and support school safety drills in collaboration with emergency management agencies.

Review and recommend improvements to School Crisis Response Plans.

Recommend personnel actions, including monitor transfers.

Procure and manage uniforms and equipment for school monitors in accordance with collective bargaining agreements.

Conduct safety presentations for faculty, staff, parents, and administrators.

Ensure distribution of updated student discipline policies to all school monitors.

Coordinate CPR, First Aid, and safety-related certifications and recertifications.

Organize and deliver annual and specialized training programs for school monitors.

Coordinate active shooter and emergency preparedness training.

Participate in meetings with district leadership, law enforcement, and union representatives.

Submit required administrative reports, including mileage and activity reports.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Education, Public Administration, or a related field from an accredited institution.

Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in school safety, law enforcement, security management, or a related field.

Experience in training coordination and program development is preferred.
Necessary Special Qualifications

Certification in CPR and First Aid (or ability to obtain).

Knowledge of crisis intervention and emergency management practices.

Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between sites.

Ability to obtain relevant safety or security certifications as required.

The School Safety Manager operates under the general supervision of the Deputy Superintendent for Operations and Support Services. The incumbent exercises independent judgment in planning, coordinating, and executing assignments, with work reviewed through meetings, reports, and overall program effectiveness.
FACTOR 3- GUIDELINES
Guidelines include departmental policies, collective bargaining agreements, emergency management protocols, and applicable laws and regulations. The incumbent must interpret and apply these guidelines to varied situations and may develop recommendations for improvements where guidelines are insufficient.
The position involves a wide range of complex duties, including coordinating multi-agency efforts, addressing sensitive disciplinary matters, conducting investigations, and developing training programs. Situations often require analysis, discretion, and adaptability.
The work directly impacts the safety and security of students, staff, and school property across the district. Effective performance contributes to a safe learning environment, improved incident response, and enhanced coordination among stakeholders.
Contacts include school administrators, teachers, school monitors, students, parents, law enforcement personnel, union representatives, emergency management officials, and contracted security providers.
The purpose of contacts is to exchange information, provide guidance, coordinate safety efforts, resolve issues, deliver training, and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
The work may require standing, walking, and traveling between school sites. Occasional physical activity may be required during drills, training sessions, or emergency situations.
