School Safety & Security Specialist

PRIMARY FUNCTION

Facilitates School Safety and Security programs and functions under the direction of the Director of Safety & Federal/State Programs. Assists in implementing and monitoring Ki Charter’s comprehensive school safety, emergency management, and regulatory compliance systems. Provides operational, documentation, reporting, and training support to ensure district safety systems and compliance processes are implemented consistently and accurately across all campuses. Assists with grants and assigned administrative tasks.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in maintaining and implementing the districtwide Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) and related annexes.
  • Support development and organization of safety Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Coordinate documentation for required drills, exercises, and EOP reviews.
  • Support district safety communications and campus alignment with established protocols.
  • Monitor and track compliance with TEA and TXSSC safety mandates under Director supervision.
  • Maintain required documentation for drills, audits, threat assessment processes, and committee requirements.
  • Enter and verify data in TEA Sentinel and other reporting systems to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Maintain internal compliance tracking systems and reconcile campus records with state reporting requirements.
  • Monitor updates to state safety regulations and assist in procedural updates.
  • Coordinate logistics, documentation, agendas, and minutes for School Safety and Security Committee meetings.
  • Track implementation status of committee recommendations as directed.
  • Provide documentation and coordination support for Student Behavioral Threat Assessment (SBTA) teams.
  • Assist with tracking training, reporting requirements, and Safe & Supportive Schools initiatives.
  • Coordinate campus safety audits using TXSSC guidelines and track corrective actions.
  • Support collaboration between campuses, facilities, technology, and leadership regarding safety-related improvements.
  • Assist with vendor coordination and documentation for safety systems and tools.
  • Coordinate safety-related training logistics and maintain training records.
  • Support preparation and dissemination of safety guidance and compliance timelines.
  • Assist in tracking safety-related grant deliverables, allowable use requirements, and reporting deadlines.
  • Maintain organized documentation to support audits and grant compliance reviews.
  • Assists with grants and safety allotments
  • Support emergency response efforts as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong organizational and documentation skills with high attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of Texas Education Code Chapters 37 and 38.
  • Ability to interpret regulations, policies, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong data management and reporting skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and compliance timelines with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, criminal justice, emergency management, public administration, or related field.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in school safety, compliance, emergency management, or related field.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with TXSSC toolkits and TEA Sentinel reporting.
  • Experience supporting grant compliance or federally funded programs.
  • NIMS/ICS training or certification.

Working Conditions

  • Travel to campuses and district sites as needed.
  • Availability to support emergency response situations as directed.
  • Occasional after-hours meetings or training.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
