School Social Worker

Job Title: School Social Worker

Location: State-Wide

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports to: Director of Exceptional Student Services

Work Hours/Days: Full-Time or Part-Time based on student enrollment and special education service needs. Caseload expectations will be aligned with FTE assignment in accordance with state and federal special education guidelines.

Wage: $65-$85/per hour. Compensation will be prorated based on FTE assignment.

Benefits: Benefit eligibility is based on FTE status. Employees working 30 hours or greater per week are eligible for full benefits including health, dental, vision, 401k and paid leave. Employees working less than 30 hours per week will get paid sick leave.

Job Function

The School Social Worker supports the development of inclusive, datadriven student services by partnering with school leaders, other SSPs, special education teachers, paraprofessionals, and families to provide highquality and compliant socialemotional and behavioral supports to qualifying students. This role strengthens MTSS/RTI frameworks, traumainformed practices, SEL programming, and inclusive school environments, while ensuring compliance and cultural responsiveness in socialemotional assessment and special education systems. The School Social Worker provides counseling, crisis intervention, consultation, and intervention services to support the behavioral, socialemotional, and functional needs of students with disabilities. Through collaborative problemsolving, targeted professional learning, and teambased planning, the School Social Worker helps educators and families implement effective SEL, behavioral, and mental health supports across school environments, including services for students with 504 plans, Gifted education needs, and MultiLingual Learners. The School Social Worker is a key member of the multidisciplinary evaluation and IEP teams, with some remote consultation and support.

Core Responsibilities

1. Assessment, EvaluationCompliance

  • Conduct socialdevelopmental histories and contribute to multidisciplinary evaluations.
  • Provide input on socialemotional, behavioral, and environmental factors impacting learning.
  • Develop IEP goals, service plans, progress monitoring systems, and required documentation.
  • Support compliance with IDEA, Section 504, and schoolbased mental health requirements.

Intervention, Mental Health,Direct Student Support

  • Provide individual and group counseling aligned to IEP goals and student needs.
  • Deliver crisis intervention, risk assessments, and safety planning using traumainformed practices.
  • Implement SEL, coping skills, and behaviorsupport interventions.
  • Support students in developing selfadvocacy, emotional regulation, and interpersonal skills.

Collaboration, Inclusive PracticesTeaming

  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, eligibility determinations, and IEP/504 development.
  • Collaborate with teachers, special educators, psychologists, SLPs, OTs, administrators, and families.
  • Promote inclusive practices and accommodations that support socialemotional access.
  • Coordinate with community agencies to support student and family needs.

DataBased Decision MakingProgress Monitoring

  • Use assessment and progressmonitoring data to guide counseling and behavioral interventions.
  • Support teams in analyzing SEL, behavioral, and attendance data to inform supports.
  • Maintain accurate service logs, progress reports, and compliance documentation.

Professional LearningFamily Support

  • Provide training to staff on traumainformed practices, SEL strategies, and behavior supports.
  • Offer consultation to support consistent implementation of socialemotional interventions.
  • Provide family education and support to help caregivers navigate special education and mental health systems.

Qualifications

EducationTraining

  • Master's degree in Social Work (MSW).
  • Valid state School Social Worker license or LCSW as required.
  • Training in traumainformed practices, SEL, MTSS, and culturally responsive mental health supports.
  • Ongoing professional development in ethical practice, crisis response, and inclusive education.

Experience

  • Experience working with students with disabilities and diverse family systems.
  • Experience providing schoolbased counseling, SEL instruction, and behavioral supports.
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and community partners.
  • Experience providing remote counseling or telesupport preferred.

Knowledge, SkillsAbilities

  • Knowledge of IDEA, MTSS, SEL frameworks, and schoolbased mental health practices.
  • Strong counseling, crisis response, and case management skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with educators, families, and service providers.
  • Strong communication, cultural responsiveness, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to support consistent implementation of SEL and behavioral interventions.

Work EnvironmentPhysical Demands
