Brief Description about the Project

The “Harmony” study is a 5-year research study conducted in collaboration between the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and St. John’s Research Institute (SJRI), Bangalore, funded by the US National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. The “Harmony” clinical trial study was designed to implement and evaluate a nurse-led behavioral intervention to reduce intimate partner violence (IPV) and alcohol use among low-income couples in Bangalore, using motivational interviewing and behavioral couple’s therapy.

Salary: Rs. 30,000/-pm

Language: Kannada and English

Experience: Minimum 1 year of working in a health care setting

Roles and Responsibilities:


Key Responsibilities

  • Administer tablet-based questionnaires to study participants in Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across Bangalore.
  • Track participants, make follow-up calls, and schedule visits as required.
  • Maintain study logs and field records accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Undertake specific project-related tasks assigned based on skills and project needs.
  • Support data management activities, including verifying, uploading, and organizing data collected from the field, and assisting in periodic data quality checks.
  • Engage actively in field-based work, coordinating with PHC staff, ASHAs, and community members to facilitate participant recruitment and follow-up.

Required Experience and Skills

  • Experience in field-based data collection, preferably using tablet-based systems (training will be provided if needed).
  • Demonstrated fieldwork experience in community or healthcare settings.
  • Experience in conducting quantitative research interviews, ideally in a healthcare or community-based environment.
  • Prior experience in discussing sensitive topics with clients or research participants.
  • Experience working on a research project is an advantage.
  • Training in human subject protection or willingness to undergo such training.
  • Excellent verbal communication in Kannada and basic written and spoken English skills.
  • Experience working with domestic violence survivors or vulnerable populations is a plus.
  • Familiarity with basic data management tools (Excel, Google Sheets) and a commitment to data accuracy and confidentiality.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Flexible work schedule, including willingness to work late evenings, Sundays, or holidays (compensatory off as per SJRI rules).
  • Ability to establish rapport and work effectively with individuals across diverse backgrounds, including different ethnicities, socio-economic statuses, castes, genders, and sexual orientations.
  • Willingness, comfort, and interest in field-based work, including travel to PHCs within Bangalore as required.
