Plans, organizes, and instructs courses as assigned by the Department Chairperson/supervisor, utilizing effective and engaging instructional strategies, the learning management system (LMS), appropriate communication, classroom management, leadership skills, and instructional/educational technology to promote student success. Normal teaching contact hours per week are 18, unless otherwise modified by the Department Chairperson/Dean.</p>

2. Demonstrates best practices in instruction and classroom management that respond to students&rsquo; diverse academic needs.</p>

3. Uses instructional technology including multimedia to meet students&rsquo; learning needs and achieve the objectives of the academic program/College.</p>

4. Assists or leads in planning and/or developing new curriculum and courses, as assigned by the Department Chairperson/Dean. Evaluates and revises existing curriculum and courses as part of the annual course evaluation process and/or as assigned. Contributes to program review.</p>

5. Participates in the planning and implementation of Student Learning Outcomes Assessment (SLOA).</p>
<p>
6. Serves as an advisor for students, utilizing effective advisement strategies, the Student Educational Plan and other advisement tools to promote student retention and progression.</p>
<p>
7. Assists students toward the successful completion of course(s) which the instructor is teaching by providing outreach, guidance, feedback, supplemental instruction, tutoring, and other approved forms of academic support.</p>

8. Makes oneself accessible and available to assist students. Provides a minimum of six (6) posted office hours per week to students.</p>

9. Maintains adequate and timely student records (e.g. grades are posted in the LMS in a timely fashion). Evaluates and reports students&rsquo; progress and attendance in a timely manner.</p>

10. Works as a team member with other faculty and staff to facilitate College and academic program operations and achieve goals and objectives. Provides guidance to new and adjunct faculty as assigned.</p>

12. Completes the New Faculty Development Program (NFDP) during the one-year probationary period to ensure understanding of the College&rsquo;s mission and preparation to instruct students with various learning styles and academic needs. Completes the Instructional Design Technology Certificate or can demonstrate mastery of its competencies.</p>

13. Continues professional development/growth and a commitment to continuous improvement as an instructor. Remains current within his/her academic field/discipline.</p>
<p>
14. Participates in departmental/campus/College meetings and serves on campus or collegewide committees. Participates in advisory committee meetings and other college and student-related activities. Advises student clubs and organizations as assigned.</p>
<p>
15. Participates in developing and implementing college policies, objectives, and/or functions in accordance with the philosophy of the College. Areas include, but are not limited to: departmental program planning, marketing, budget development, and public relations.</p>

Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads &ndash; both students and employers &ndash; for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 25,000 students in 2024-25. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,399 graduates in 2024-2025, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 33% enrolled at TCC. TCC&rsquo;s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.</div><div><br>

</div><div>The adjunct faculty member is responsible for teaching courses to which he/she has speciﬁc training or competence. Plans, organizes, teaches, and provides feedback to students to promote and direct student learning in either a classroom, remote via Zoom, or online environment to students with a wide variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. Engages students outside of class via office hours and provides thorough, timely, and effective feedback to students regarding the mastery of course and program learning outcomes.<br>
</div><h1 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Functional Responsibilities:</b></h1>
<div>1. Responsible for creating a learning environment that facilitates students&rsquo; acquisition of knowledge and skills in a discipline and/or program.</div>
<div>2. Aligns course activities with student learning outcomes for the course; employ a variety of active learning strategies to foster student engagement; employ appropriate technology and supporting materials that support course and/or program learning outcomes; and provide students with prompt and meaningful feedback on course activities and assignments, communicating with students in a timely and respectful manner.</div>
<div>3. Deliver instruction in support of stated learning outcomes; adhere to college policies and procedures for participation in student surveys of instruction; conduct meaningful and timely assessments of student learning, including at least one assessment within the ﬁrst 15% of class; and analyze the previous semester&rsquo;s evaluation of instruction and develop and implement appropriate action plans as necessary.</div>
<div>4. Responsibilities may include work during the day, evening and/or weekend as determined by the course(s) assigned.</div>
<div>5. Hold at least 1 office hour per week for each course assigned.<br>
</div></div><b>Minimum Qualifications:</b><br>
<ul>
<li>Bachelor&rsquo;s or Associate degree in respiratory therapy or related degree from a regionally accredited college or university.</li>
<li>Two or more years of occupational experience</li>
<li>Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) credentials and licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner through the Virginia Board of Medicine.</li>
<li>Ability to communicate effectively in an electronic format</li>
</ul><b>Additional Considerations:</b><br>
<ul>
<li>Teaching experience at the college level.</li>
<li>Knowledge of CANVAS or other learning management systems.</li>
<li>Knowledge of, and experience with, proven teaching strategies that promote student success.</li>
<li>Candidates should possess sufficient technology skills to work productively in an organization that utilizes significant information and instructional technology resources.</li></ul></div></div>
