Adjunct Faculty – Mathematics

Position Summary
 
Under the supervision of the Department Head and/or Lead Faculty, Adjunct Faculty have as their primary duty the instruction of assigned college-level and/or learning support classes. Adjunct faculty may teach classes scheduled during the day or evening, delivered in a variety of formats, and offered at multiple locations, including off-campus sites and local high schools.
 
Responsibilities include: 
Conducting classes using appropriate instructional practices
 Maintaining accurate records of attendance
 Evaluating student performance on assignments
 Monitoring and communicating progress to students and appropriate college personnel
 Assigning midterm and final grades
 Completing required training
 Performing other duties as assigned
 
Adjunct Faculty are expected to comply with and support college policies as outlined in the Strategic Plan, the College Catalog, the Adjunct Faculty Handbook, and the Employment Agreement.

 Ensure that services and activities are clearly communicated, widely accessible, and aligned with documented student needs and institutional/state policies

 An earned Master’s degree in Mathematics or Statistics from a regionally accredited institution OR
 A Master’s degree in another field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Mathematics or Statistics

 Teach courses in subject field. Develop instructional materials. Assess student learning and assign grades. Attend required Adjunct meetings in the Fall and Spring semesters. Participate in college governance and other aspects of academic life. Maintain current knowledge of subject matter.

 Adjunct Faculty members are expected to maintain current in compliance training, including compliance under Title IX &ldquo;Responsible Employee&rdquo; and, if applicable, Clery Act Campus Security Authority.

 Select, prepare and maintain current curriculum, course outlines and printed and non-printed instructional materials.
 </li>
 <li>
 Teach courses as scheduled each academic semester.

 Provide instructional support to the students. Refer students, when appropriate, to sources of specialized services within the College.

 Provide the Division and the students a syllabus utilizing Simple Syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, attendance policies in line with those of the college, texts and readings, timelines and evaluation criteria, and any other information required by College, Division, or departmental policy.

 Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and learning outcomes through assignments, projects, discussions or examinations. Provide feedback in a timely manner on student progress.

 Deliver course content using a variety of teaching styles.

 Maintain office/discipline/grade/division records as required by the College.
 </li>

 Be available for student consultation through phone or email.

MA in English, Composition &amp; Rhetoric, English Education, or a related degree from an accredited institution</li><li>
Expressed interest in teaching at a community college</li><li>
Commitment to serve the needs of students who represent a broad spectrum of ages, abilities, ethnicity, gender expression and identity, education, and cultural backgrounds</li><li>
Experience teaching first-year college composition courses, or other relevant experience supporting students within first-year college composition</li><li>
Demonstrated experience teaching with a lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion</li><li>
Demonstrated ability to utilize technological integration in course design and delivery to maximize student success outcomes</li><li>
Available to teach a variety of modalities, including face-to-face, hybrid, and online.</li></ul>
Preferred Qualifications<ul><li>
Three years of experience teaching first-year college composition courses</li><li>
Experience using Canvas (or a similar Learning Management System) and various teaching technologies, such as Google Suite, to deliver and support instruction</li><li>
Experience with departmental and college-wide writing assessment practices</li><li>
Ability to effectively collaborate with the Language &amp; Literature Department and externally with a diverse range of individuals across campus to promote student success</li></ul>
