The Adult Services Librarian provides reference and Readers&rsquo; Advisory services and technology assistance to Library customers and leads paraprofessional staff in managing collections and providing programs. Assists Library customers in the use of digital and print resources, and promotes Library resources, programs, and services. 


RESPONSIBILITIES

<li>Utilizes and accesses information using a broad spectrum of resources, including print, electronic, and online resources.
</li><li>Upholds the highest standards of customer service with polite, helpful, and efficient interactions with vendors, customers, and staff.</li>
<li>Provides leadership, training and guidance to staff and the public in the area of Adult &amp; Teen Services.</li>
<li>Stays current with adult and teen literature, relevant technology, and library trends.
</li><li>Provides reference and Reader&rsquo;s Advisory assistance for users, including topical research and material location.</li>
<li>Works with Collection Services to manage the adult collection.
</li><li>May periodically serve as Person In Charge (PIC), providing support for employees, customers, and facility issues.
</li><li>Performs special projects involving Library promotion and outreach activities in areas of expertise. Conducts Library tours.</li>
<li>Coordinates and/or conducts the proctoring of exams for public.
</li><li>Develops, implements, and staffs programs for adults.</li>
<li>Prepares reports and statistics for review as requested.</li>
<li>Troubleshoots and resolves minor computer hardware and software problems.
</li><li>Attends professional development opportunities.

About the Position 
 
As part of the Information Services/Adult Services Department, and reporting to the Department Manager, this role provides responsive, high-quality services to adult patrons. Responsibilities include developing and delivering adult services and programming; assisting with collection development, including selection and weeding; creating engaging displays and exhibits; providing reference and information services; maintaining awareness of current professional practices; and performing related duties as assigned. 
 
The ideal candidate will bring a strong interest in adult nonfiction as well as reference and information services, along with the ability to connect patrons with relevant resources. They will be comfortable using current library technologies and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. 
 
This individual will demonstrate experience in planning and delivering adult programming, a proactive approach to outreach and community engagement, and strong communication skills. The position requires professionalism, adaptability, and a collaborative mindset, along with enthusiasm, courtesy, flexibility, and a sense of humor. 
Prior professional experience with reference services and familiarity with research tools and content platforms (e.g., LibGuides) are preferred.

Branch Library. This position equals 40 hours per week.
The selected candidate will be expected to provide library services of interest to adults and teens including but not limited to reference and readers advisory services, programs, outreach, collection development, and delivery of diverse information services during varied, and at times non-traditional work hours. Minimum qualifications: Fully completed MLS from an ALA-accredited graduate program. The Library is seeking Adult Librarians to cultivate creative thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and resourceful users of information. Successful candidates will embody each of these four characteristics themselves.</div><div> 
</div><div>Key Responsibilities: 
Under the supervision of the Library Manager, the Adult Librarian:</div><ul>
<li>Provides reference service and resource recommendations using print, media and digital resources</li>
<li>Collaborates with the Adult Educational Services Department to develop, promote, facilitate, present and evaluate innovative programs to meet the expressed and anticipated needs of the community&rsquo;s adult population including book discussions, author talks, technology classes, financial literacy sessions, arts and wellness activities, and a variety of other programs both in the Library and throughout the community</li>
<li>Partners with the collection development team to build and maintain the Adult collection ensuring it is diverse, current, and relevant and meets the needs of the community</li>
<li>Works to engage adults with the collection in ways that allow them to follow their interests and discover new ones</li>
<li>Encourages digital literacy and provides technology instruction</li>
<li>Develops and maintains the layout and appearance of the adult space, ensuring a safe and inviting area filled with relevant resources</li>
<li>Develops and maintains content for social media platforms such as Library blogs, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Pinterest</li>
<li>Mentors library staff in preparing and presenting adult programs</li>
<li>Assists with circulation, fines &amp; fees management, reserves and opening/closing procedures</li>
<li>May take responsibility for the facility, staff and operations in the absence of the Library Manager</li>
<li>Maintains a working knowledge of trends in adult literature, educational and development needs, adult services and the profession through webinars, internal training, meetings, conferences, professional literature and organizational memberships</li>

</div><ul><li>ALA accredited Master&rsquo;s degree in Library and Information Studies</li>
<li>Public Librarian&rsquo;s Professional Certificate issued by the State of New York</li>
<li>Knowledge of emerging library technologies, service and programming trends for children in urban public libraries preferred</li>
</ul><div>Required Skills
</div><ul><li>Strong commitment to public service and the ability to work well with a diverse patronage</li>
<li>Experience creating and conducting a variety of innovative programs for adults</li>
<li>Knowledge of Adult literature and experience maintaining an Adult collection</li>
<li>Experience building partnerships with local organizations to better meet the needs of community users</li>
<li>Demonstrated interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including public speaking and presentation skills</li>
<li>Successfully demonstrated ability to work as part of a team</li>
<li>Strong organization and planning skills, including the ability to perform multiple projects or tasks simultaneously</li>
<li>Strong computer and other related technology skills, including MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Google applications, PCs, Macs and e-reader devices</li>
<li>Demonstrated knowledge of computer services including online searching, social media, reference resources and databases</li>
