Job Summary</b></h2><p>
The University of Michigan is seeking a full-time Advance Practice Professional to assist transplant surgeons and physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patients in need of remedial and preventive medical care in the area of abdominal solid organ transplant.</p><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Responsibilities*</b></h2><div>
This position will have inpatient and outpatient responsibilities as outlined below;<br>
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:<br>

<ul><li>Medical / surgical management of early post-transplant kidney and liver patients (first 3 months post-operatively) in the outpatient clinic, including but not limited to management/treatment of: Wound and surgical interventions, immunosuppression, rejection and infection.</li><li>Order and interpret diagnostic testing including, but not limited to: labs, EKG, CXR, renal US, liver ultrasound, abdominal US, CT, MRI/MRA, cardiac stress test.</li><li>Assess, diagnose, and manage non txp abdominal surgical patients in the outpatient surgery clinic.</li><li>Serve as a resource for the Pre and Post transplant nurses; provide continual education lectures; provide support to field in coming patient problems/concerns.</li><li>Perform pre-operative history and physicals for living donor transplants.</li><li>Cover Transplant Ambulatory Care Unit (TACU) for patients seen for urgent issues (surgical site infections; dehydration; transfusions; infusions)</li><li>Write Discharge summaries and arrange for appropriate follow-up.</li><li>Facilitate patients, disposition with clinic nurses and problem solve regarding admission, scheduling and chart review of patients.</li><li>Conduct rounds on post-operative kidney/pancreas/liver transplant patients with continued monitoring of laboratory and diagnostic tests with documentation and plan of care.</li><li>Consult other medical/surgical services for collaboration of care in the in-patient and outpatient setting.</li><li>Discuss and evaluate data/results with attending physician(s).</li><li>Completion of complication data on liver txp population.</li><li>Participate in the development of policies, procedures, and protocols.</li><li>Participate in continual Quality Improvement.</li></ul></div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Required Qualifications*</b></h2><p>
NP</p><ul><li>
Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.</li><li>
Certification as an Acute Care Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner or Acute Care NP.</li><li>
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program or who has successfully completed all required Nurse Practitioner program coursework at an accredited Nurse Practitioner program to qualify to take their specialty certification exam.</li><li>
Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).</li><li>
Current DEA registration required.</li><li>
BLS, ACLS required.</li></ul><p>

APP experience prescribing and managing immunosuppression medications.</li><li>

Demonstrated expertise in facilitating the educational growth of others through previous clinical instructional roles. This includes publication in local, state and national journals in nursing or medicine.</li><li>

Job Summary</b></h2><p>
The Section of General Surgery and the Division of Colorectal Surgery at Michigan Medicine are seeking a qualified Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our team. The PAs and NPs support the faculty and resident teams to provide patient care for adult general surgery patients. This is a great opportunity for motivated professionals to provide patient care through diagnosis and treatment of surgical patients across a broad spectrum within Michigan Medicine.</p><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Responsibilities*</b></h2><p>
The Advanced Practice Professional (APP) will participate in all aspects of inpatient care for patients admitted to the colorectal surgery service. They may sporadically participate in outpatient clinic follow-up of patients after discharge. This position will also offer the opportunity to collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and residents in quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives. These job duties may be modified depending on the needs of the Section of General Surgery and the Division of Colorectal Surgery.</p><p>
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:</p><ul><li>
Inpatient rounding and order entry</li><li>
Order and interpret diagnostic tests</li><li>
Coordinate with consulting teams</li><li>
Maintain complete documentation of patient care</li><li>
Serve as first contact for patient care, respond to questions from nursing and other healthcare professionals via EMR secure chat, page, and phone</li><li>
Lead daily multidisciplinary rounds with case managers, pharmacists, social workers, and others</li><li>
Order and prescribe medications in accordance with statutes, rules and regulations of the State of Michigan</li><li>
Wound/ostomy care</li><li>
Maintenance, troubleshooting, and removal of nasogastric tubes and surgical drains</li><li>
Educate and counsel patient and family members on disease pathophysiology, management, and trajectory</li><li>

Under physician supervision, coordinates care of acutely ill post-surgical Adult/Late Adult patients admitted to the Cardiac Surgery Service intensive care setting. Specifically, role requires clinician to:</p><ul>
<li>Perform advanced diagnostic and therapeutic tasks associated with patients undergoing Cardiac, Vascular and Thoracic procedures, including heart and lung transplantation and ventricular assist devices.</li>
<li>Collect detailed histories and physicals and present pertinent data to the medical staff.</li>
<li>Collect and interpret reports from diagnostic lab tests, radiographic procedures, and clinical studies.</li>
<li>Order tests and prescribe medications.</li>
<li>Perform various diagnostic, therapeutic, and minor procedures, based on privileges.</li>
<li>Assist attending physician in orientation of new resident physicians to the service and assist in maintaining continuity of care throughout the Cardiovascular center.</li>
<li>Confer with attending physicians and communicate with other care providers/consultants to coordinate clinical care. Maintain accurate documentation regarding patient status, evaluations, and treatment.</li>
<li>Streamline the patient transfer process between levels of care, including writing discharge orders and communicating specific patient needs to team members.</li>
<li>Participate in quality assurance activities, peer evaluations and support research initiatives involving CVICU and cardiac surgery patients.</li>
<li>Comply with established standards for quality, patient safety and re-imbursement.</li>
<li>Perform other related duties and initiatives as deemed necessary in the best interests of patient care.</li>

Responsibilities*</b></h2><p>
Under physician supervision, coordinates care of acutely ill post-surgical Adult/Late Adult patients admitted to the Cardiac Surgery Service intensive care setting. Specifically, role requires clinician to:</p><ul>
<li>Perform advanced diagnostic and therapeutic tasks associated with patients undergoing Cardiac, Vascular and Thoracic procedures, including heart and lung transplantation and ventricular assist devices.</li>
<li>Collect detailed histories and physicals and present pertinent data to the medical staff.</li>
<li>Collect and interpret reports from diagnostic lab tests, radiographic procedures, and clinical studies.</li>
<li>Order tests and prescribe medications.</li>
<li>Perform various diagnostic, therapeutic, and minor procedures, based on privileges.</li>
<li>Assist attending physician in orientation of new resident physicians to the service and assist in maintaining continuity of care throughout the Cardiovascular center.</li>
<li>Confer with attending physicians and communicate with other care providers/consultants to coordinate clinical care. Maintain accurate documentation regarding patient status, evaluations, and treatment.</li>
<li>Streamline the patient transfer process between levels of care, including writing discharge orders and communicating specific patient needs to team members.</li>
<li>Participate in quality assurance activities, peer evaluations and support research initiatives involving CVICU and cardiac surgery patients.</li>
<li>Comply with established standards for quality, patient safety and re-imbursement.</li>
<li>Perform other related duties and initiatives as deemed necessary in the best interests of patient care.</li>
<li>Utilize new improvements and/or technologies that relate to job assignment.</li></ul><p>
Note: Position is night/day rotator with the majority of shifts being on nights. Holiday and weekend rotation required, weekend requirement could be as much as 50% or every other.</p><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Required Qualifications*</b></h2><p><b>
NP:</b></p><ul><li>
Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.</li><li>
Current specialty certification to practice as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.</li><li>
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.</li><li>
Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).</li><li>
Recent clinical ICU experience in the last 5 years caring for acutely ill patients with diseases common in Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery.</li><li>
Current DEA registration required</li><li>
ACLS required (separate AHA approved BLS also required unless ACLS was completed through the UMHS Simulation Center).</li></ul><p><b>
PA:</b></p><ul><li>
Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan with 2 or more years of ICU experience caring for critical care patients.</li><li>
Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.</li><li>
Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).</li><li>
Recent clinical ICU experience in the last 5 years caring for acutely ill patients with diseases common in Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery.</li><li>
State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required</li><li>
Current DEA registration required</li><li>
ACLS required (separate AHA approved BLS also required unless ACLS was completed through the UMHS Simulation Center).</li></ul><p>

At least 1 year full time ICU experience as an NP/PA</li><li>
As least two (2) or more years of ICU experience caring for critical care patients.</li><li>
Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of current medical, surgical, and pharmaceutical treatment modalities of the post-cardiothoracic surgery.</li><li>
Demonstrated experience with ventricular assist device and heart/lung transplantation patients.</li><li>
Demonstrated ability to coordinate clinical care ideas across multiple patient care services and to communicate assertively as a patient advocate.</li><li>
Demonstrated high level of critical thinking.</li><li>
