AI Labs seeks an AI Researcher to contribute to advanced research that will power credit, fraud and marketing decisions. Colleagues in AI Labs serve as key members of the Global Decision Science organization within Credit and Fraud Risk at American Express. This critical team is responsible for managing enterprise risks throughout the customer lifecycle, across our consumer and commercial businesses, and across all our global products. We develop industry-first data capabilities, build profitable decision-making frameworks, create machine learning-powered predictive models, and improve customer servicing strategies.
Our Global Decision Science teams use industry leading modelling and AI practices to predict customer behaviour. We develop, deploy and validate predictive models and support the use of models in economic logic to enable profitable decisions across credit, fraud, marketing and servicing optimization engines.</div>

Originally created in response to one of the first computer viruses - the Morris worm &ndash; in 1988, CERT has remained a leader in cybersecurity research, improving the robustness of software systems, and in responding to sophisticated cybersecurity threats. Ensuring the robustness and security of AI systems is the next big challenge on the horizon, and we are seeking life-long learners in the fields of cybersecurity, AI/ML, or related areas, who are willing to cross-train to address AI Security.
As part of the Threat Analysis Directorate, you will join a group of security experts focused on advancing the state of the art in AI security at a national and global scale. Our tasks include vulnerability discovery and assessments for AI systems, evaluation of the effectiveness and robustness of defenses and mitigations for AI systems, reverse engineering AI systems and models, and identifying new areas where security research is needed. What You Will Do *
Raytheon UK has a perm opportunity for a Senior Data Scientist and Machine Learning Researcher to join our Strategic Research Group (SRG).
As a Senior Data Scientist and Machine Learning Researcher, you will be responsible for the technical development and leadership of AI/ML projects from initial idea scoping right through to final project delivery both in customer and internal domains. You will demonstrate novel thinking and propose new ideas for solving challenging problems while mentoring others on your project team to deliver towards your proposed solution.
The Strategic Research Group (SRG) is a team of Data Science, Machine Learning and AI specialists who develop novel AI solutions to mission focussed problems.
You can be based with our Gloucester, Manchester or London team, working in a hybrid capacity (average of 3 days a week on-site). You must already hold or be able to gain SC clearance (on Day 1) and eDV clearance (once started).
Responsibilities<ul><li>
Develop complex, novel data science solutions, contributing significantly to machine learning projects with minimal guidance.</li><li>
Brings experience in scoping, designing, and delivering data-centric solutions while working collaboratively across disciplines.</li><li>
Undertake research and applied AI/ML tasks on both customer and internal research projects.</li><li>
Generate ideas for new research directions and provide technical leadership in small project groups.</li><li>
Mentor more junior team members within their project team and the wider SRG.</li><li>

Required Skills &amp; Experience<ul><li>
BSc in Machine Learning, Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics or related field</li><li>
Experience coding in Python and associated ML packages (HuggingFace, TensorFlow, PyTorch).</li><li>
Have an established track record of delivering ML solutions to customers and internal stakeholders.</li><li>
Demonstrate deep understanding of AI/ML algorithms for different data types and tasks including Generative AI, NLP and computer vision, sufficient to be able to undertake research and development beyond existing literature.</li><li>
Experience of training and developing AI models including Large Language Models.</li><li>
Ability to produce high-quality scientific writing for internal &amp; external stakeholders as well as academic publications.</li><li>
Experience of mentoring other team members and undertaking technical leadership on small projects or sub-parts of larger deliveries.</li></ul>

We use large real-world complex datasets, including data extracted from electronic health records and medical images, for applications pertaining to patient diagnostics and prognostics.
