Under the direction of the operations manager, the Airport Maintenance Worker III performs skilled and semi‑skilled work to ensure the airport remains safe, compliant, and operational 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. The salary and hiring range for this position is $25.00 - $29.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. This opportunity will be available to applicants until filled. 
 
This is a temporary position, working 40 hours per week, for a maximum of 10 months. There is an option for medical coverage only.

Responsible for operating gasoline and large diesel-powered machinery in a safe and appropriate manner.  PURPOSE OF POSITION: This position is the junior classification in the Airport Operations and Maintenance Technician series. Under the general direction of the Airfield Operations and Maintenance Manager and Airfield Operations and Maintenance Supervisor, this position performs a variety of unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled duties related to airfield and ground maintenance. This includes, but is not limited to, corrective and preventative maintenance, construction, carpentry, and demolition projects related to the Airport airfield, public and private roadways, parking lots and other Airport owned property.
 
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
 ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: AirfieldPerforms entry level airfield and ground maintenance, such as tree removal, grading of safety areas, weed removal and general airfield grooming, occasionally with heavy equipment.Performs airfield inspections in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 139. Responsible for posting Notice of Air Missions (NOTAMS), the maintenance and security inspections of gates and fence lines, responding to gate alarms and report the findings appropriately, perform random badge inspections, which may include assisting security and/or law enforcement in removal of unauthorized persons inside the Air Operations Area (AOA).Ensures compliance with the Airport Certification Manual in the following areas: Snow and Ice Control Plan, Fuel Inspections, Airport Emergency Plan, Self-Inspections, Wildlife Hazard Management Plan and all Letters of Authorization and Standard Operating Procedures.Responsible for escorting contractors while on the Aircraft Movement Area (AMA) or inside the AOA and coordinate their movements with the Redmond Federal Control Tower (FCT) when necessary.Performs all entry level airfield painting, including layout of new paint markings, removal of old markings and understanding of FAA marking requirements.Performs entry level pavement maintenance on all Airport owned paved surfaces on the airfield runways, taxiways, ramps, and roadways. <h5 class="jobSectionHeader">GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:</h5>
Performs intermediate protective service work operating fire apparatus in emergency situations and difficult semiskilled and skilled work operating and maintaining automotive and construction equipment and monitoring electrical circuits, runway and taxiway lights and general maintenance of the airport and associated facilities. Direction is provided by the Airport Maintenance Supervisor.

<div><ul><li>Operates light and heavy-duty fire apparatus.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Responds to crash, fire, rescue and medical emergencies on and around the airport.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Participates in Federal Aviation Administration and Department of Defense required firefighter training.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Inspects airfield for wildlife hazards and takes appropriate wildlife hazard management actions.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Inspects airfield for safety and security issues.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Troubleshoots and repairs minor electrical lighting problems on airfield.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Operates all types of mowers to maintain neat appearance of airfield.</li></ul>

</div><h5 class="jobSectionHeader">KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:</h5>
Through knowledge of the principles and practices of operating light to medium construction and snow removal, equipment; thorough knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary to the proper operation of varied construction and maintenance equipment; some knowledge of the standard techniques and practices of high voltage (480volt) electrical wiring, some knowledge of FAA airfield lighting specifications; some knowledge of airport radio procedures; some knowledge of applicable safety precautions of the trade; ability to perform manual labor in varying weather conditions; ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and thorough knowledge of Aircraft Rescue Firefighting and associated equipment operations. Ability to be flexible in work schedule and work holidays and weekends as required.
<h5 class="jobSectionHeader">EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:</h5>
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and considerable experience in operation and maintenance of light to medium motorized equipment including fire apparatus and a minimum of five years fire service experience. Airline ground handling experience desirable.
<h5 class="jobSectionHeader">PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:</h5>
This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, night vision, peripheral vision, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arm&rsquo;s length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, operation of emergency vehicles, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, oils, and wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus. The worker may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
<h5 class="jobSectionHeader">SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:</h5>
Possession of an appropriate valid Class B Commercial Driver&rsquo;s License (Maryland or other State equivalent). Possession of Firefighter II, Maryland Emergency Medical Technician, Emergency Vehicle Operators Course, Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute (or equivalent) Pump Operators course, Hazardous Materials Operations and Airfield Rescue Firefighting certifications. Current Part 139 Live Burn Certification desirable but not mandatory. Applicant will be subject to a full criminal background investigation to include fingerprinting and Random Drug &amp; Alcohol Testing.

Under the direction of the operations manager, the Airport Maintenance Worker III performs skilled and semi‑skilled work to ensure the airport remains safe, compliant, and operational 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Responsible for maintaining and inspecting airfield facilities, pavements, lighting systems, grounds, buildings, and aircraft operating areas in accordance with FAA 14 CFR Part 139 requirements, airport policy, and industry best practices.
