Summary: 
The Transport Paramedic may function as lead caregiver in a two-person team (medic/medic composition) and will be the third team member of a critical care team (RN/RT/Medic). The Paramedic will function independently and makes complex and critical judgements during the transport of patients of all ages who have been classified as BLS and/or ALS 1-2 category. As a member of the critical care team, the Transport Paramedic will assist the Transport RN and RT with patient care while utilizing their advanced skills and training. The paramedic will have an active role in managing the customer service experience during the transport of patient and family members.<div>
Responsibilities: 
<ul><li>Makes critical clinical judgments without direct supervision on the transport team and with Behavioral Health Vehicle transports. Remains compliant with paramedic transport protocols and orders given from medical direction</li><li>Performs transport of patients (including driving of transport vehicle) to procedures, tests performed off hospital campus and multiple treatment facilities upon discharge; responds quickly to patient and family needs while collaborating with the transport RN and RT on a treatment plan during transports</li><li>Performs basic and advance skills when deemed appropriate while utilizing the Transport Paramedic protocols.</li><li>Performs all BLS and advanced skills during patient care including, but not limited to: initiation of PIV catheters; priming IV fluids (excluding blood products); naso/oral/pharyngeal suctioning; insertion of NG/OG tubes and insertion and maintaining of Endotracheal Tube</li><li>Assists in emergency situations by initiating BLS and ALS life saving skills, assisting with chest compressions, and/or participating as a vital member of the transport team.</li><li>Transports behavioral health patients via the Behavioral Health Vehicle program to behavioral health facilities with a medic/medic team</li><li>Performs documentation of patient care in a computerized data base program as specified by department and hospital guidelines.</li><li>Assists critical care RN and RT with the stabilization and transport of critically ill and injured neonatal and pediatric patients.</li><li>Applies family and patient centered care to all job aspects and support family during air transports and all phases of care</li><li>Assists and performs independently with regulatory readiness, inventory of equipment on ambulance and store rooms, and daily checks of the contents and mechanical function of the ambulance.</li><li>Participates in monthly meetings, committees, and maintains all required training.</li><li>Assists in educational activities within Transport Services including: new employee orientation, in-service education, both internal and external, as specified by outreach coordinator and education coordinator; participate in department committees.</li><li>Assists in the training and development of new staff to the department. <div>This position is responsible for providing prehospital Advanced Life Support to victims of sudden illness or injury in the designated service areas of the EMS system and provides appropriate mutual aid assistance when requested by adjacent ALS services. GENERAL SUMMARY: 
Provides emergency care and life support to patients in the Emergency Department and augments the role of the Registered Nurse (RN). Performs all job functions under the direction or supervision of a physician, registered nurse, advanced practice nurse or physician assistant.

The Green Health and Wellness Center Emergency Department offers 24-hour emergency care with board-certified, emergency medicine physicians who are available around-the-clock to provide comprehensive care to adults and children. Backed by the full resources of Cleveland Clinic Akron General and Cleveland Clinic, the Emergency Department provides advanced care in the Bath community. Paramedics provide emergency treatment, including advanced life support, to patients in emergencies. The Paramedic's role is to assess the urgent medical needs of patients and stabilize their conditions. Paramedics are the most highly trained emergency medical responders. A caregiver in this position work PRN (as needed) variable shifts from 7:00 a.m. &ndash; 7:30 p.m. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Provide duties that assist in providing patient care in the Emergency Department under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. Obtain and record vital signs. Perform EKGs, CPR, phlebotomy and oral, nasal and ET suctioning. Initiate cardiac monitoring, oxygen therapy and saline locks. Notify the RN and/or physician of rhythm changes. Apply orthopaedic appliances and simple splints. Size crutches and teach crutch walking. Assist with equipment setup, chest tubes, gastric lavage, LP, etc. Assist with restraint and seclusion of patients and apply restraint devices. Transport patients and specimens. Assist with sterile procedures and cleaning and maintaining supplies and equipment. Maintain confidentiality and respect patient privacy. Perform fluid/drug administration. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Completion of an accredited EMS-Paramedic training program Current licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMTP) in Ohio Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon hire or within one year of start date in the Emergency Department Clinical experience through an EMS Paramedic training program Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) One year of experience as an EMT-P Experience in a hospital setting or city ambulance Physical Requirements: Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking. Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work. Personal Protective Equipment: Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required. ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Firefighter-Paramedic Recruit position is a non-sworn, non-safety, at-will role designed to prepare candidates for a career as a sworn Firefighter-Paramedic with the City of Ventura.
Firefighter-Paramedic Recruit
 
Recruits attend an 18-week Fire Academy and may participate in additional departmental training. Training provides an introduction to the fire service, including firefighting techniques, emergency medical response, physical fitness, and applicable rules, regulations, and procedures. Recruits are assigned to a 40-hour work week during the academy and training period.
Firefighter-Paramedic Trainee
 
Appointment to the sworn Firefighter-Paramedic Trainee classification is based on overall academy performance and evaluations. Trainees are assigned to a 56-hour work week (24-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays), serve a 12-month probationary period, and perform emergency medical services as a certified paramedic, along with fire service duties including fire suppression, rescue, hazardous materials response, station and equipment maintenance, fire prevention, and public education.
Firefighter-Paramedic
 
Trainees who successfully complete one year of full-time firefighting experience advance to the Firefighter-Paramedic classification, performing the full range of journey-level Firefighter-Paramedic duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS &ndash; REQUIRED
Education &amp; Experience
High school diploma or G.E.D. is required.
Age
Must be at least 18 years old at the time of application.
Citizenship
Must be a U.S. citizen or provide proof of application for U.S. citizenship at least one year prior to applying.
Background
Candidates must successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation.
Physical Requirements
Must be physically capable of performing all tasks required of a Ventura Firefighter-Paramedic, including the rigorous demands of emergency operations.
Must meet California Department of Motor Vehicle visual acuity standards necessary to maintain required licenses.
Fitness will initially be determined by possession of a Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) certificate and the ability to pass a medical evaluation.
Desirable Qualifications
Associate&rsquo;s degree in Fire Science, Fire Technology certification, or California Firefighter I certification.
One year of experience as a 911 emergency paramedic.
Some prior firefighting experience.
