 Summary
 
 
 
 Responsible for all aspects of daily operations with emphasis on the quality and timeliness of anesthesia technician support, the availability of anesthesia-related supplies and equipment, and the successful resolution of issues. Ensures that staff is adequately trained and able to function in all anesthetizing locations. Coordinates operational duties such as completion of a master schedule in conjunction with the anesthesiology / nursing board-runner and administrative supervisors. Investigates patient care issues as necessary in conjunction with department director, the medical director, and the quality control administrator. This position will spend 60% of their time in clinical shifts and 40% of their time in administrative/leadership, recognizing that at least 10% of their time in the clinical shifts is still spent coaching, mentoring, and developing staff.
 
 
 
 Responsibilities
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Participate in the selection, training and skill development of direct reports
 </li>
 <li>
 Maintain master staffing schedule, Kronos timekeeping, coordinate staffing needs, monitor attendance and productivity
 </li>
 <li>
 Responsible for managing PTO requests and coordinating with other team leaders to ensure adequate coverage
 </li>
 <li>
 Responsible for disciplinary actions (documentation, verbal warnings, written warnings) under the oversight of Manager and Director
 </li>
 <li>
 Evaluate employee performance against existing department standards including annual PEAC review, quarterly reviews, coaching, etc.
 </li>
 <li>
 Participate in creating and revising department policies
 </li>
 <li>
 Must have a good working knowledge of computers and proficiency with data
 </li>
 <li>
 Coordinate &amp; participate in scheduled department in-service programs &amp; staff meetings
 </li>

 Operational/Education/Quality/Risk Management/Survey Readiness:
 </li>

 Deploy staff to ensure appropriate coverage in all clinical support areas
 </li>

 Monitor and assure direct reports are adhering to hospital and department policies and procedures related to patient care, safety and quality, operations &amp; financial stewardship

 Function in the capacity of an Anesthesia Technician during staffing shortages; including but not limited to: call-ins, no-shows, on-call, high census

 Ensure that new staff are thoroughly oriented to role prior to working independently

 Ensure that staff have a variety of appropriate in-services, training and educational opportunities related to credentialing, job requirements and professional development

 Collaborate with external departments on operations issues or concerns (Perioperative Services, Heart Center, Radiology, CCBD, Pharmacy, Biomed, and Supply Chain)
 </li>

 Ensure that staff are adequately prepared for surveys and audits in conjunction with Director, Quality Coordinator and/or Physician leader
 </li>

 Completion of an accredited Anesthesia Technician program preferred or

 SCHEDULE:
 
 Full time (40 hours per week), primarily Monday through Friday from 6:30am to 3:00pm, occasional weekends, on-call rotation, 1 summer and 1 winter holiday.
 
 
 
 POSITION SUMMARY:
 
 
 
 Responsible for serving as an active member of the Perioperative Team. The main responsibility of this job is to assist with all phases of the perioperative procedure to include but not limited to: basic operating /block room set-up and turnover, assist anesthesia providers, patient preparation and positioning, stocking of supplies, anesthetic blocks, setting up sterile trays for lines and any other job needed to be completed within Perioperative Services as directed by the Circulating Nurse, Charge Nurse, Coordinator, Anesthesia Technologist Facilitator or Anesthesia provider. Patient care includes care to patients in the following age groups: neonatal (birth to 30 days), pediatric (30 days through 12 years), adolescent (13 through 18 years), adult (19 through 64 years) and geriatric (65 years and above).
 
 
 
 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Prepare for hemodynamic monitoring and insertion of invasive hemodynamic monitors.
 </li>
 <li>
 Assist with Anesthesiologist with peripheral nerve blocks within any location of LGH
 </li>
 <li>
 Performs daily anesthesia machine checks
 </li>
 <li>
 preparing peripheral IV&rsquo;s
 </li>
 <li>
 IV insertion to be under the direct supervision of the anesthesiologists or CRNA
 </li>
 <li>
 Assist with invasive lines
 </li>
 <li>
 drawing blood samples
 </li>
 <li>
 assisting with blood and fluid replacement
 </li>
 <li>
 preparing medications under the direct supervision of the anesthesiologist/CRNA
 </li>
 <li>
 Perform patient and control testing on unit-specific Point of Care testing, according to Lab regulatory standards. Report results and findings to the Licensed Care worker.
 </li>
 <li>
 Prepares fluid warmers
 </li>
 <li>
 Set up rapid transfusion devices
 </li>
 <li>
 Assist with difficult airway management
 </li>
 <li>
 Support anesthesia in non O.R. locations (endo, IVU, EP &amp; Cath lab, ER)
 </li>
 <li>
 Stocks anesthesia carts
 </li>
 <li>
 Checks anesthesia equipment
 </li>
 <li>
 Orders anesthesia supplies and maintains par levels and adjusts inventory as indicated
 </li>
 <li>
 Performs daily checks of anesthesia equipment and supplies in all Operating Rooms
 </li>
 <li>
 Decontaminates anesthesia TEE equipment
 </li>
 <li>
 Provides support to the Surgical Team: ( as a team member will perform without hesitation or direction the duties below to maintain the flow of surgery)
 </li>
 <li>
 OR room preparation: Correct surgical bed with linens; Retrieve equipment as required; Assist with Opening sterile supplies
 </li>
 <li>
 Patient Preparation intra-op: Assist with prep &amp; patient positioning using proper body mechanics; Assist with placement of OR equipment; Assist scrub team with sterile supplies, (Tying the backs of the scrub gowns); Supply/equipment retrieval prior to and during procedures and post procedure
 </li>
 <li>
 Transport specimens as requested
 </li>
 <li>
 Assure bed/stretcher is ready for patient at end of surgery
 </li>
 <li>
 Lifting help from OR bed to stretcher
 </li>
 <li>
 Flat surface cleaning
 </li>
 <li>
 Change out used anesthesia circuit and suction tubing
 </li>

 Mop floor
 </li>
 <li>
 Remove trash and deliver to appropriate place
 </li>

 Remove equipment and return to appropriate storage

 Patient transport as required

 Return equipment/supplies to appropriate areas

 Observes and reports unusual situations, reactions, effects, or conditions to responsible person. Reports equipment that is out of order.

 Understands the parameters of the sterile field and traffic flow for the Operating Room

 Transport patients from the Nursing Units to the Operating Room.
 </li>

 Transports patients from the PACU to the Nursing Unit
 </li>
 <li>
 Trouble shoot the Operating Room electrical beds.
 </li>
 <li>
 With guidance from the surgical team connect electrical equipment to the outlets and assist with moving equipment up to the sterile field.
 </li>
 <li>
 Knowledgeable of how to take pieces of equipment out of service
 </li>
 <li>
 Participates in the on-call responsibilities for this position as required.

 MINUMUM REQUIRED QUALFICATIONS:
 
 
 
 <ul>

 HS Diploma or GED
 </li>
 <li>
 One year of patient care experience or one year of perioperative services experience
 
 
 </li>
