Our mission is to promote social justice and advance human rights for vulnerable members of our community. While our core legal services include Domestic Violence, Elder Law, Housing, Veterans&rsquo; Benefits, and Child Abuse Prevention, we also provide a range of legal services including limited family law and expungements to clients referred by the County&rsquo;s Human Services Department. LASC collaborates with a network of community partners including immigrant service centers, homeless service providers, local government, and senior centers.</p><p><b>PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: </b></p><p>The HOME team provides vital legal support to low-income tenants facing eviction, unsafe living conditions, and challenges with rental housing or mobile home parks. By helping people stay housed and protecting Section 8 benefits, the team works to prevent homelessness and keep families in their communities. The Housing Policy team, informed by real stories and data from the HOME team and working in partnership with coalitions like the Sonoma County Tenants Union, pushes for stronger local tenant protections that reflect the needs of our community.</p><p>SUMMARY: The Bilingual Housing Caseworker is central to LASC's housing program, serving as both a client-facing case manager and a support resource for attorneys. Coordinate and research travel for statewide meetings and nationwide conferences with members of the legal and judicial community, prepare and process vouchers of payment of travel and other expenses for the State Public Defender.</li><li>
Under the direction of the State Public Defender, process requests for new contracts, contract amendments, contract renewals and contract terminations. Verify Iowa licenses and attorney disciplinary history. Prepare documents for approval by the SPD, send out routine contracting correspondence and notices. Maintain accurate contract attorney records and files. Serve as a primary point of contact for phone, email and mail inquiries about the indigent defense contract attorney program.</li><li>
Maintain confidential supervisory files for all State Public Defender employees. Locate documents as requested by the State Public Defender and ensure necessary documents are delivered to the HR contact. Manage and track performance evaluations, including sending reminders to supervisors, forwarding completed evaluations to the State Public Defender for authorization and submitting to the HR contact. Provide recruitment support by tracking positions, preparing hiring approval documents, posting attorney job openings, setting up interviews, generating offer letters and processing rejection letters. Assist with new hire onboarding tasks and answering general HR inquiries from employees.</li><li>
Perform other duties as directed by the State Public Defender, including special projects that often are of a complex or sensitive nature.</li></ul><div><b>

<div><div><div>The Office of the District Attorney, Bronx County (&ldquo;BXDA&rdquo;) is charged with the twin goals of ensuring public safety and striving for equal justice for the over 1.4 million members of the Bronx County community. By &ldquo;Pursuing Justice with Integrity,&rdquo; the BXDA places a focus on assistance for crime victims while simultaneously ensuring fairness to defendants. Moreover, the BXDA aims to balance the need to seek appropriate punishment for certain crimes while recognizing when punitive measures do not adequately advance justice. In furtherance of this mission, the BXDA seeks an experienced and enthusiastic Chief of Public Information Officer / Communications. The Chief of Public Information Officer / Communication should have strong knowledge of New York City, the Bronx, the Criminal Justice System, police issues and crime as well as experience as a journalist covering these subjects. The Chief of Public Information Officer / Communications will use their knowledge and experience to handle media requests and disseminate news of the Bronx District Attorney&rsquo;s Office to the media and the public as well as handling internal communications for the Office.<br>

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:<br>
Specific duties will include, but are not limited to the following:<br>

<ul><li>Oversee staff who are tasked with handling media inquiries, arrange interviews, organize press conferences, draft press releases, external newsletters, and internal communications such as memos, newsletters.</li><li>Prepare speeches, testimony, and PowerPoint presentations for the District Attorney.</li><li>Accompany the District Attorney to events, meetings, and external press conferences.</li><li>Advise the District Attorney on communication matters.</li><li>Responsible for overseeing the strategy for communication with the public, the press and other organizations.</li><li>Ensure consistent clear, concise messaging across all modes of communication.</li><li>Respond to inquiries from reporters, press, and the BXDA public website.</li><li>Serve as the Office point of contact and spokesperson for the District Attorney.</li><li>Manage the day-to-day operations of the Communications/Public Information Unit.</li><li>Mentor and supervise staff.</li></ul><br>
PREFEREED QUALIFICATIONS:<br>
<ul><li>Master&rsquo;s Degree in Public Relations, Communications or Journalism.</li><li>Experience working with local outlets and a strong network of press contacts.</li><li>5 years&rsquo; experience in a supervisory role.</li></ul><br>

Minimum Qualifications</b></h2><p><br>
1. Graduation from an accredited college with a baccalaureate degree and four years of progressively responsible experience in journalism, public relations, advertising or closely related fields; or

2. High school graduation or evidence of having passed an examination for a high school equivalency diploma plus 8 years of full-time, paid experience in the areas stated above; or
<br>
3. Education and/or experience equivalent to &quot;1&quot; or &quot;2&quot;.</p><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b><br>
Preferred Skills</b></h2><br>
- Seven to ten years of experience as a journalist covering crime, the criminal justice system, and police issues in New York City. The preferred years of experience may be combined with experience as a public information officer or in a spokesperson role. - Knowledge of the diversity and complexity of Bronx County. - Strong understanding of the Criminal Justice system, Bronx communities and NYC. - Excellent writing, editing, oral and communication skills. - Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and work a flexible schedule. - Ability to effectively engage in inter/intra agency collaboration and navigate a variety of systems. - Ability to work independently, assess priorities, take initiative, handle multiple tasks, and meet deadlines. - Proficient in MS Office Outlook, Word, Excel, Adobe, MS Teams, Zoom, and social media. - Expertise and experience in handling sensitive and controversial issues. - Must possess a high level of integrity and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.<br>
