Job Description</div><div>
The Department of Biology at the University of Nevada, Reno is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar position. The selected candidate will work in our long-term system of food-caching mountain chickadees in the Sierra Nevada mountains (north of Truckee, California). The expected start is April 2026 and funding is currently available for 2 years (annual salary is $61,008 plus benefits), but depending on success of pending proposals, more funding may become available. The research in our lab is focused on spatial cognition, behavioral ecology, and population biology using individually-banded mountain chickadees. Our field work continues year-round with peaks in the winter when we study cognition and, in the summer, when we study breeding biology. All field work is in extremely rugged montane conditions where we can get up to 15 feet (5 m) of snow throughout the winter and we use snowmobiles and tracked ATVs to access our field sites. The ideal candidate should be able to work in physically demanding montane conditions, tolerate (or preferably enjoy) cold and snow, have previous experience working in winter conditions (e.g. skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling), have previous experience working with small passerine birds, and be highly proficient in R (ability to handle large data base and statistical analyses).</div><div></div><div>

The successful candidate will work with human cell lines, embryonic stem cells, and iPSCs, including their generation, characterization, and differentiation into cortical neurons and brain organoids. Experience with organoid culture, cryo-sectioning, microscopy, and MEA functional assays is highly desirable.</p>

Expertise in CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing (knockout and correction) and in NGS workflows&mdash;such as ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, miRNA-seq, single-cell RNA-seq preparation, and CUT&amp;RUN&mdash;is strongly valued. Strong grounding in molecular biology techniques (Western blot, Northern blot, immunostaining, PCR/RT-qPCR, cloning, RNA work) is expected. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment that includes collaboration with fellow post-doctoral associates, senior and junior scientists, and undergraduate students. They will also benefit from the support of established Core Bioinformatics and Sequencing Platforms and High-Performance Computing facilities.</p>

 The Cell Death Signaling Laboratory at the Division of Science (Biology), New York University Abu Dhabi, invites applications for a Junior Research Scientist position to study the role and molecular mechanisms of acid sphingomyelinase (ASM) in ferroptosis. This project seeks to elucidate how the tumor-suppressive lipid ceramide regulates ferroptosis and contributes to iron mobilization that drives lipid peroxidation during this unique form of regulated cell death. The successful candidate will participate in an exciting research program exploring the emerging role of ceramide in promoting ferroptosis through signaling networks that control iron accumulation and oxidative stress. Our laboratory has recently identified a pivotal role for acid sphingomyelinase in autophagy-dependent ferroptosis, uncovering critical links between ASM activity and key cell death signaling pathways. To further unravel these mechanisms, the candidate will contribute to the development of advanced cell-based and analytical techniques, combining molecular and biochemical approaches such as Western blotting, qRT-PCR, RNA sequencing, HPLC, FACS, and fluorescence microscopy using specific probes.

 Applicants should have prior experience in studying regulated cell death pathways, including apoptosis, autophagy, necroptosis, ferroptosis, or oxeiptosis, and must hold a Master&rsquo;s degree in Biochemistry or a related discipline with at least two years of relevant research experience. Applicants with experience in sphingolipid research would be preferred.
