The Chemistry Department (science.ucf.edu/chemistry) and the National Center Forensic Science (NCFS, www.ncfs.ucf.edu) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invite applications for one full-time, 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Forensic Toxicology. This is a joint position between the Chemistry Department and NCFS. This position is anticipated to begin in August 2026. Candidates hired at the assistant professor level are expected to develop externally funded, nationally competitive research programs. State-of-the art laboratory space and a competitive startup package can be expected. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching in both the undergraduate and graduate programs.
The Department of Chemistry at UCF is fueling the STEM workforce of the future, preparing students through five broad areas of study, including: materials, biochemistry, environmental chemistry, forensic chemistry, and chemistry education research. Our faculty are actively engaged in cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research in collaboration with the National Center of Forensic Science, the Nanoscience and Technology Center, the College of Optics and Photonics, the College of Engineering and Computer Science, and the College of Community Innovation and Education. The department offers a range of academic programs, which include both B.A. and B.S. degrees in Chemistry and a B.S. in Forensic Science, as well as M.S. programs in Chemistry and Forensic Science, and a Ph.D. in Chemistry. Forensic Science degree is accredited by the Forensic Science Education Programs Accreditation Commission (FEPAC) and UCF is a member of The Consortium for Nuclear Forensics, one of only 16 universities in the nation. Minimum Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Chemistry or appropriately related field from an accredited institution and a demonstrated track record of research productivity in forensic science.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference is given to candidates who have at least one year of post-doctoral research or equivalent experience (e.g., forensic casework experience). Additionally, candidates with presentations and/or publications in Human Forensic Toxicology are preferred.

 The Water Research Center at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to recruit a postdoctoral associate to work on membrane surface patterning for water treatment applications, under the supervision of Dr Daniel Johnson, Assistant Professor of Engineering and Co-PI of the Water Research Center.
 
 
 The successful applicant will lead an innovative project focused on the development of hybrid processes for the recovery of minerals from desalination reject brine. The role will involve development of a range of mineral extraction processes and the lab and pilot scale. This will include development and testing of innovative membrane materials for water recovery, adsorption processes, ion exchange and solvent extraction. Ultimately, the candidate will develop and test hybrid systems using combinations of these technologies, to find low cost and environmentally sustainable to reduce environmental impacts of desalination waste streams whilst recovering minerals of economic importance.
 
 
 The successful applicant will oversee projects, develop extensive technical expertise, and implement innovative solutions. He/she will contribute to the development of novel concepts and proposal writing, while efficiently addressing complex challenges. Responsibilities will include writing reports, authoring publications, drafting patents, and presenting results at conferences. The ideal candidate will possess demonstrated knowledge and experience of membrane fabrication and characterization, and desalination and other water treatment processes, including working at both the bench and pilot scale . Experience in assessment of environmental impacts of processes, such as life cycle analysis, is desirable. Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and exceptional verbal and written communication abilities are essential. The candidate should be capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team.
 
 
 Applicants must have a PhD in chemical or process engineering, environmental engineering, materials science &amp; engineering or related field. Excellent experimental and analytical skills relevant to the project (in particular membrane fabrication, materials characterization, aqueous chemistry and desalination processes) are required. Candidates with a demonstrated history of peer-reviewed publications in a related area, along with prior expertise in materials science and environmental chemistry will be preferred.

Associate Professor/ Assistant Professor- Chemical Engineering

<div>We present an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and skilled researcher to join our team as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Inorganic/ Organometallic Chemistry at the University of Central Florida (UCF). This unique position offers a blend of advanced research in molecular inorganic and organometallic chemistry, with a downstream interest in reactivity, catalysis and relevant mechanistic investigations.
The successful candidate, housed in the labs of, and co-advised by Professors John Gordon and Titel Jurca, will play a pivotal role in advancing cutting-edge molecular inorganic chemistry. Responsibilities include the synthesis and characterization of novel coordination complexes employing techniques spanning conventional air-free synthesis, to alternative sono- and mechanochemical methodologies. Relevant complexes will be further studied for reactivity, with potential application to catalytic processes. Additionally, the candidate will participate in standard laboratory responsibilities of upkeep/maintenance, the collective supervision of graduate and undergraduate students, and dedicated activities related to professional development.
Responsibilities:
Research: Conduct advanced research in the synthesis, characterization, and reactivity of novel molecular inorganic complexes. Collaboration: Actively collaborate across both Gordon and Jurca groups, and the REACT cluster at UCF, in pursuit of the research goals.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in organometallic, inorganic, or catalysis chemistry. Strong background in standard molecular analysis techniques including NMR, FTIR, mass-spec, scXRD (not required but desirable). Experience in air-free synthetic techniques (Schlenk line, inert atmosphere glovebox)
Preferred Qualifications:
Excellent writing, communication, and collaboration skills. Track record of high-quality publications in peer-reviewed journals. Experience with x-ray crystallography.

Job Description:

PRIMARY PURPOSE/GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Dean of Natural Sciences, the General Chemistry Laboratory Coordinator is responsible for the set-up, preparation, continuing improvement, maintenance and management of the general chemistry laboratory curriculum. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, teaching of general chemistry lab sections, the development and updating of the general chemistry laboratory curricula to match best practices in chemistry pedagogy, the management of the general chemistry laboratory teaching spaces and preparation room, and the coordination of the faculty and teaching assistants in the program. 
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Preparation, Maintenance, and Management of Laboratories &amp; Lab Equipment
<ul><li>Coordinate general chemistry lab sections, manage enrollments, electronic laboratory notebooks, course management software, assignments, grading, and TA instruction.
</li><li>Set-up, test, and tear down of experiments for all general chemistry lab sections.
</li><li>Prepare, set-up and tear down classroom lecture demonstrations.
</li><li>Regularly check, maintain, repair (when feasible), and order replacement equipment on an ongoing basis to ensure that classroom laboratory equipment and demonstrations are ready for use and functioning properly. Arrange for repair of instruments by outside vendors when needed.
</li><li>Organize, inventory, curate, and maintain general chemistry prep room in excellent and safe working order.
</li><li>Handle purchase orders and deliveries of instructional supplies and equipment for the general chemistry laboratory curriculum, and appropriately document such transactions.
</li><li>In coordination with the Department of Natural Sciences Safety Of&#64257;cer, document and maintain all hazardous materials such as chemicals and chemical laboratory waste.
</li><li>Hire, train, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate undergraduate assistants, as needed 
</li></ul>Laboratory Development, Design, and Pedagogical Innovation
<ul><li>Research, develop, and, in consultation with the chemistry faculty, modernize instructional chemistry laboratory experiments (and demonstrations) to match with best current pedagogical practices. After the first year, a normal pace would be the replacement or modernization of two experiments per year (typically in the summer) or the equivalent.
</li><li>In consultation with the chemistry faculty, develop and design new protocols and instructional materials for the chemistry lab curricula.
</li><li>Maintain, curate, update, and disseminate (on an appropriate learning management system) these instructional materials/lab manuals on an ongoing basis, to ensure continuity from year to year and easy accessibility for all chemistry faculty and students.
</li><li>Attend conferences and workshops as necessary to maintain continuing familiarity with modern experiments, pedagogical developments and practices.
</li><li>Regularly participate in Chemistry Discipline meetings and update the chemistry faculty on these new pedagogical laboratory developments and options.
</li><li>It is anticipated that work responsibilities in the summer months, when classes are not in session, will be heavily focused on lab development.
</li></ul>Laboratory and Classroom Teaching
<ul><li>Teach 15 teaching units per year, on average. Depending on the interest of the General Laboratory Coordinator and Chemistry Discipline needs, teaching in lecture courses is a possibility at some point, but is not required.
</li><li>Keep informed of developments in chemistry laboratory pedagogy, and work with faculty to design and implement new curricula that align with best practices in chemistry education.
</li><li>Disseminate pedagogical &#64257;ndings to the rest of the chemistry faculty.
</li><li>Active support for the College&rsquo;s Principles of Community and Institutional Values in the performance of job duties.
</li></ul>REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

</li></ul>OTHER:
EDUCATION &amp; EXPERIENCE:
<div>Master&rsquo;s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Education, Chemical Engineering, or related field is required, or any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. ABD or PhD in related field is preferred.
Prior experience teaching and/or designing chemistry labs and/or developing chemical pedagogy is preferred.
</div>HOURS &amp; CLASSIFICATION AND STATUS:
This is a regular status, full-time, bene&#64257;ts-eligible, exempt staff position. 
The regular hours for this position are Monday-Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm, but hours may vary due to the needs of the College or department, and holiday, weekend, and evening work hours (particularly teaching evening labs) may be required. Travel may be required. This position is not normally eligible for remote or hybrid work. 
Salary rate range: $68,640-$75,000 annualized. The salary rate of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training. 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Will supervise undergraduate student assistants.
