 We are inviting applications for a Post-Doctoral Associate in the Division of Social Science at NYU Abu Dhabi from individuals who have or will soon receive a PhD in demography, epidemiology, public health, or a related discipline in the social sciences. The appointment will begin September 1, 2026, subject to final budget approval and is available for up to three years.

 The post-doctoral associate will spend half their time on independent research, and half their time on collaborative research with Professor St&eacute;phane Helleringer. The collaborative research will be on population health and its determinants in low-and-middle-income countries, with an emphasis on measurement issues and the impact of crises such as epidemics and disasters.

 The job entails conducting high-quality research on population health and its determinants in low-and-middle-income countries. This includes conceptualizing research questions, designing empirical studies, collecting or acquiring new data sets, and analyzing these data using advanced statistical models and visualization techniques. The job also emphasizes the dissemination of knowledge about population health, particularly through the preparation of peer-reviewed manuscripts, software packages and/or participation in international conferences.

 Candidates must hold a PhD in demography, epidemiology, public health or related discipline in the social sciences.  The Water Research Center at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to recruit a postdoctoral associate to work on the development of responsive membranes with in situ switchable properties, under the supervision of Professor Nidal Hilal, Director of the Water Research Center and Global Professor of Engineering and professor Raed Hashaikeh, Professor of Mechanical Engineering.

 The successful applicant will lead an innovative project focused on the development of surface-patterned membranes with tailored surface features designed to enhance the performance of microfiltration (MF), ultrafiltration (UF), membrane distillation (MD), and nanofiltration (NF) processes. The role involves advanced membrane fabrication techniques and a range of membrane characterization methods, such as SEM, EDS, TGA, contact angle measurement, CFP, BET, FT-IR, Raman spectroscopy, among others. Lab-scale testing will be performed to establish critical relationships between fabrication methods, structure, properties, and membrane performance, with the goal of improving desalination and water treatment applications.

 The successful applicant will oversee projects, develop extensive technical expertise, and implement innovative solutions. He/she will contribute to the development of novel concepts and proposal writing, while efficiently addressing complex challenges. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Professor Raed Hashaikeh in the Mechanical Engineering Department, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of researchers and graduate students. The Associate Research Scientist will have access to state-of-the-art research facilities at NYUAD.

   Developing and optimizing functional membranes, including electrically conductive membranes, for use in desalination, energy generation, and electrochemical separations.

   Conduct research on membrane fouling (biofouling, scaling, organic fouling), diagnostics, and control strategies.

   Design, fabricate, and characterize functional membranes (e.g., conductive, anti-fouling, electrochemical systems).

   Operate and evaluate membrane systems (RO, NF, UF) at lab and pilot scales.
  </li>
  <li>
   Apply advanced characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, AFM, FTIR, XRD, TGA, BET, EDX, EIS, CV).
  </li>
  <li>
   Collaborate with interdisciplinary researchers in materials science, chemical and environmental engineering.
  </li>
  <li>
   Contribute to mentorship of students and lab group discussions.

   Experience with membrane fabrication, testing, and characterization.
  </li>
  <li>
   Solid analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively.

   A strong publication record with first-author articles.
