<p></p><div>The Division of Medi-Cal Fraud and Elder Abuse (DMFEA) investigates and prosecutes, healthcare providers who defraud the Medi-Cal program and those who abuse or neglect elderly and dependent adults in care facilities.</div><div></div><div><br>
This DMFEA Deputy Attorney General position prosecutes complex criminal cases in state court involving (1) fraud committed against the Medi-Cal program by doctors, pharmacies, medical equipment suppliers, and other Medi-Cal providers, and (2) criminal abuse and neglect of elders and dependent adults. The majority of the cases we currently handle are fraud cases.</div><div></div><div><br>
DMFEA is a vertical prosecution unit, where prosecutors work closely with in-house special agents and investigative auditors. The prosecutor advises DMFEA&rsquo;s investigators on their investigative plans, reviews search and arrest warrants, and determines charges to bring. The prosecutor is then responsible for the criminal prosecution, from filing through conviction and sentencing.</div><div></div><div><br>
Additional duties include: prosecution of crimes involving diversion of opioids and other controlled prescription drugs; regular collaboration with the state agencies responsible for administering Medi-Cal and regulating residential care facilities; close interaction with healthcare experts to identify the relevant standards of care in the industry and determine any breach of those standards; frequent work with forensic experts, including computer forensic examiners, coroners, and forensic auditors; freezing and forfeiting assets; and close work with DMFEA&rsquo;s federal and local law enforcement partners in California, and occasional work with Attorney General offices and other law enforcement in other states.</div><div></div><div><br>
This position requires the ability to travel for court proceedings including, but not limited to, preliminary hearings and jury trials sometimes overnight and on occasion for extended duration, and for meetings with colleagues, witnesses, and outside partners.</div><br>

PRIMARY DUTIES</b></div><div></div><p><br>
The Office of the Attorney General is seeking a dynamic leader and experienced litigator to head the Criminal Division&rsquo;s Major Crimes unit. Major Crimes attorneys work in conjunction with county and district attorneys to initiate and prosecute major felony cases statewide, with a focus on homicides and off-grid child sex crimes. This position will lead a team of criminal prosecutors and support staff. This is an opportunity to litigate complex criminal cases in district courts across the state, as well as to mentor and supervise other attorneys in the unit. The successful candidate will have an exemplary record as an ethical litigator and a vision to improve and expand the work of the Major Crimes unit.</p><p>

<br>Assistant Attorney General - SECUREThe Utah Attorney General's Office has a vacancy for an Assistant Attorney General to work in the Justice Division. The selected applicant will work in the SECURE/Human Trafficking section. The human trafficking prosecutor works with the SECURE strike force to provide support to investigators and to prosecute human trafficking cases throughout the state of Utah. The prosecutor also assists with human trafficking training.This position requires excellent written and oral advocacy skills and the ability to try both jury and bench trials of a complicated nature. Preference will be given to candidates with criminal litigation experience, an interest in criminal law, and experience in preparing for and trying complex criminal cases. The candidate must be a member in good standing with the Utah State Bar upon application.
