</div><div></div><div><div><b>CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS:</b> Under the supervision of the school principal, responsible for instruction, specialized services and support to students for the purposes of developing the students&rsquo; ability to effectively perform courses of study in the English language, discipline of all students in assigned classes, and performs related duties as required.</div></div><br>

</p><div><b>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: </b>Responsible for instructional planning, including, but not limited to, providing lessons plans and preparation for each assigned student in accordance with the objectives of the instructional program, Chicago Public Schools&rsquo; policies and procedures, Illinois Learning Standards, and state and federal law; administering tests and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating students&rsquo; language ability; assessing students&rsquo; progress, expectations, and goals in the bilingual program, developing and delivering lesson plans that utilize appropriate instructional techniques that enable limited English proficient students to overcome barriers that impede equal participation by these students in the district&rsquo;s instructional programs; establishing positive learning expectation standards for students, and evaluating students&rsquo; progress and maintaining current and accurate records of students&rsquo; achievements; implementing instructional methods, including, but not limited to applying contemporary principles of learning theory and teaching methodology, drawing from the range of instructional materials available in the school, participating in the development and implementation of new teaching techniques, and providing bulletin board and interest areas reflective of students&rsquo; current work; exhibiting and applying knowledge of the curriculum content related to subject areas and instructional level; participating in programs to improve student attendance; promoting anti-vandalism programs in the schools; establishing and maintaining responsible rules of conduct within the classroom and on school grounds, including but not limited to, playgrounds, corridors, and lunchrooms, consistent with the provisions of the Chicago Public Schools&rsquo; Uniform Discipline Code; maintaining accurate attendance records and seating charts, encouraging student growth in self-discipline and positive self-concept; ensures fairness in teacher-student relationships and exhibits and understanding and respect for students; initiating appropriate conferences with parents, guardians, administrators, and/or ancillary personnel, in accordance with school procedures; communicating with parents or guardians and counsels students on the student&rsquo;s academic progress, attendance, and conduct; participating in in-service meetings and professional staff meetings and using pertinent information and materials provided; may coordinate and attend class field trips; may work in extra-curricular and after-school activities; utilizing appropriate resources available in the community.</div><br>

</div></div><p></p><p><b>PRIMARY PURPOSE: </b>Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject areas assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in a global society.<br>

</li>Valid Texas teaching certificate for subject/level assigned<li>
</li>Completion of Texas Reading Academy required for Elementary<li>
</li>ESL Supplemental Certification preferred

<p><b>MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
</b></p><p><b>Instructional Strategies:
</b></p><div>Develop and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required.<ul><li>
</li></ul>Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.<ul><li>
</li></ul>Access and use available data to plan and implement appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect accommodation for individual needs of students assigned (i.e. gifted and talented, bilingual/ESL, 504, etc.).<ul><li>
</li></ul>Work cooperatively with special education teachers/staff to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established by Individual Education Plans (IEP).<ul><li>
</li></ul>Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.<ul><li>
</li></ul>Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s) while working with students in the classroom.<ul><li>
</li></ul>Use appropriate technologies to strengthen and enhance the teaching and learning process.

</b></p><div>Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.<ul><li>

</li></ul></div><p><b>WORKING CONDITIONS:
</b></p><p><b>Mental Demands/Physical Demands: </b>Must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem-solving skills while under stress. Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. Frequent in-district and occasional in-state or national travel.
</p><p><b>Posture: </b>Prolonged sitting and standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
</p><p><b>Motion: </b>Frequent walking; repetitive computer work with frequent use of hands and wrists.
</p><p><b>Lifting: </b>Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 - 25 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment.
</p><p><b>Tools/Equipment Used: </b>Standard office equipment, copier, laptop computer, video camera and digital video equipment.
</p><p><b>Environmental Factors: </b>Exposure to hot or cold temperatures. Working indoors/outdoors. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
</p><p><b>Safety: </b>Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to the supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.<br>

</b></div><div><ul><li>Help all students develop competence and confidence simultaneously through a balance of acquiring basic skills and developing conceptual understanding.
</li><li>Monitor, supervise, coordinate and enforce rule of conduct and behavior for assigned students, and reinforce positive student behaviors in accordance with school and District policy.
</li><li>Observes, evaluates, reports and records students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
</li><li>Communicates with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems.
</li><li>Prepare educational course outlines, objectives and materials according to curriculum guidelines or state and local requirements.
</li><li>Present subject matter to students, using various teaching methods and technology, adjusting teaching style and method to meet student learning style.
</li><li>May participate in extra-duty activities as outlined in the teachers' collective bargaining agreement. (this is for coaching, tutoring, or summer programs, etc. for Dept. of Labor laws)
</li></ul></div><div><b>What You&rsquo;ll Need:
</b></div><div><ul><li>Hold a Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in Education or related field required. A Master's Degree is only required for Concurrent Enrollment positions.
</li><li>Have a valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license. Click here for additional information regarding specific requirements and qualifications for the various subject areas (DPS does accept a CDE Application Receipt for 90 days.)
</li><li>ELA-S (teaching in both Spanish and English) positions, candidates are required to take the Spanish language proficiency (SLP) exam, proctored by Berlitz Testing. Additionally, if a teacher has taken, or choses to take, the Praxis II - Spanish: World Language 5195 exam, it will also work at DPS as an appropriate SLP exam, as long as the candidate scores 163 or higher on the Praxis II (#5195) exam.
