<div><div><b>JOB DESCRIPTION:</b></div>

<p>This is a senior level <b>Biological Scientist</b> position in a research lab studying lung biology and development in a wide range of diseases including lung injury and development, pulmonary and vascular biology, innate immunity, and infections. The Biological Scientist is expected to be able to; Maintain a necessary rodent colony to achieve research objectives; Conduct rodent procedures as necessary to complete research objectives; Oversee their execution assigned experiments; Design laboratory experiments; Develop/Edit protocols to improve existing techniques or to incorporate new diagnostic procedures; Review, approve, or interpret scientific results; Present researching findings to PI, at laboratory meetings and at scientific meetings; Responsible for the management of laboratory functions; Maintain laboratory safety programs and train personnel in laboratory safety techniques; and actively patriciate in the writing of grants, papers, and statements of work.</p>
<p><b>
Animal Studies</b>: Responsible for the management of all rodent lines to achieve research objects. Develop, organize, and conduct experimental studies with live specimens. Handling mice for setting up timed matings, weaning animals and maintaining colonies. Participating in all rodent procedures. Ensuring compliance with IACUC and NIH standards.<br>
<br>
M<b>olecular Techniques and Analysis</b>: Molecular cloning, Plasmid purification, Primer design, RNA and DNA isolation, isolating RNA and performing real-time PCR, and PCR genotyping of transgenic mouse lines. Participate in in-vitro studies. This may include expansion/maintenance of cell lines and analysis of transfection/infection. Performing protein analysis by isolating protein of interest from cell or tissue and performing/analyzing western blots. Ability and knowledge to study signaling pathways.<br>
<br>
<b>Histology Analysis:</b> Collecting organs and other tissue and embedding the specimens for sectioning either with a microtome or cryotome (for frozen sections). Following preparation of slides with sectioned tissue, staining with standard histology stains such as H&amp;E, as well as with immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence will be done. Participating in the image capture and analysis of tissue following intervention studies. This includes treating mice, collecting tissue and processing it for analysis.</p>

Laboratory Management</b>: Ensuring compliance with all regulatory bodies (IACUC, IRB, EH&amp;S, Etc). Categorizing and storing sensitive scientific materials/instruments. Assisting administration in the reconciling of charges in accordance with cost accounting standards. Orders supplies for the research laboratory.</p></div><br>

The Sr. Scientist II is reporting to the Biomaterials Research group in Tissue Material Sciences (TMS). The Sr. Scientist II will play a pivotal role in the development of innovative biomaterials for next-generation medical aesthetics products. Leveraging expertise in biomaterials, polymers, and biological components, this lab-based role will drive innovation to achieve targeted physicochemical and biological properties in fillers, biological injectables, and regenerative medicine prototypes, with an emphasis on product differentiation, efficacy, and safety.</p><p><b>
Key Responsibilities:</b></p><ul><li>
Lead and execute scientific research in biomaterials innovation, focusing on medical aesthetics applications, conceiving and advancing early-stage scientific initiatives.</li><li>
Develop and characterize new materials to meet desired physicochemical properties and biological features.</li><li>
Generate scientific elevation packages to facilitate product development.</li><li>
Propose new scientific projects and actively participate in pre-concept brainstorming and design stages.</li><li>
Collaborate cross-functionally with colleagues within TMS and other groups to achieve project and functional goals.</li><li>
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and support documentation for IP protection and regulatory submissions.</li><li>

Qualifications</b><br>

Experience requirements: 4+ years (Ph.D.), or 10+ years (M.S.), or 12+ years (B.S.) of relevant experience, including industrial work.</li><li>
Deep understanding of polymer-based biomaterials design with tailored features for medical applications, with expertise in synthesis, characterization, and formulation.</li><li>
Expert in bioconjugation and hydrogel crosslinking techniques.</li><li>
Demonstrated experience with biomaterials for medical devices, drug delivery systems, and/or regenerative medicine.</li><li>
Product development experience spanning proof-of-concept research, prototyping, and product development (preferred).</li></ul><br>
